Dyno results with Mod list and an apology

147 at the wheels to 190 at the fly is a pretty optimistic flyweel correction if you ask me. all me sceptical, but I never EVER look at fly estimates on dyno printouts. every car is different and will have difefrent transmission losses. besides, what does it matter what the engine's making when it's what's going down on the road that actually does anything.

tht said, that's not a bad figure at the wheels for an N/A SR20, and yes it is absolutely necessary to alter the fuelling in response to absolutely any modification made to get the best out of it. not only that but if it's underfuelling after being modded it's better for the engine aswell.

technically it's not underfuelling, it's over airing... if that makes sense. if you modify the engine to flow better, at high rpm you'll be getting more air into the combustion chamber and will need to adjust timing and fuelling to match.

if you weren't, why else would you need a remap after the work?

Ive got a filter, 4 branch manifold then got a power run and they monitored the fueling which was spot on. I dont need a remap yet ive improved the breathing capabilities of my engine mate...

...Is what you meant, just didnt come across very well.

Initially it sounded like you were saying an underfueling engine was good.

yeah that's what I meant. reading it back it doesn't make much sense.

the filter will do next to nothing apart from make a noise. on the 1.4 the standard panel filter is less of a restriction than the throttle body/inlet manifold/head ports & valves and you're better off with cleaner air ging into the engine than you are with more noise. the 4 branch will make the exhaust flow better, but that's on the way out of the engine, not on the way in, so it won't affect the fuelling.

A car which uses an ECU will detect extra air entering and adjust the fueling accordingly. Nissan ECUs are pretty good at this and up untill you have some pretty major mods just bumping up the fuel psi helps richen the top end nicely. I still use a standard ECU. A re-map would gain me power below 4k but not much above that......and i dont drive below 4k anyhow!

exactly, a remap isn't necessary but it's necessary to get the best out of any mods. the standard ecu will do up to a point. full throttle i.e. closed loop mapping will only really cope with so much.

so what clutch do people recomend?

As far as ive heard the standard ones are pretty much up to scratch, youd probably only want to change to a fast road clutch if you wanted something with alot more bite, or if your going to do alot of track days like Rowdy.
