Engine Cleaning

Thanks Benskett, your engine looks nice, but what does "Then go over with an LSP like NXT/SRP" mean?

I'll be off home for uni this next week, i'll hopefully have some before and after pics for your efforts.

Cheers,

Mike

Last stage product - LSP
NXT - Meg's NXT Tech Wax
SRP - Autoglym Super Resin Polish. ;)

acid wheel cleaners better for the block and head

normal paint is fine, heat resistant stuff is shiteeeeeeeeeeeeee and rubs off eventually

use some back to black type stuff on the hoses to bring them up nice(autoglyms version is th best Ive used, like a green paste, easy to put on, doesnt go everywhere, lasts well too)

autosol to polish the air con pipes

whip the plenum cover and throttle bodyoff, rub them down, clean with thinners and paint them too

weekends work incuding waiting for paint to dry = one transformed engine bay

Would have said its still best to use heat resistant paint to be safe...it gets quite hot and you dont want it burning or peeling off!

definately use heat reisitant paint, either the paint or the laquar i used doesnt like the heat and it has gradually gone from bright white to a yellowy coilour and looks shit now! gutted!

not really mate because youve seen what happens when you use normal paint and laquar. discolours

never discoloured for me? and the SR20 gets hotter than any other (non turbo) engine I know of

could of been not dried properly when laquaer applied, or oily vapours some how penetrated the paint

for the rocker cover get sum went n dry sand papper cum down a few grits polish with autosold metal polish for ages and hey presto took ma ages worth it tho

Below are before and after pics of using 'Gunk', a rag and a hose. Either I wasn't scrubbing hard enough/long enough or my engine's too dirty to be cleaned - either way it wasn't really worth the £5 tbh. It got rid of the dust and stuff, but it's not what I was expecting.

Maybe steam is the way forward...
