First MOT in turbo

Thats ok, I will have a proper look at the system tomorrow. Thanks for all advice anyway. Ill let you know how i get on.

Chris

From experience the bolts and studs love to seize up, shear, rust, etc. Flop, flop, bang! Cat in :) Looks better too.

Ive put 2 GTi's through tests with no cat without a problem, just not turbos. Well looked after and a decent run beforehand and went through.

Choices to me are:

1. Put in for test....see what happens...if fails on emissions get the cat done. Chose a place with free re-test.
2. Have a cat put in and get a decat for after test so you can swap on MOT day and future.
3. Permanent cat installed.

Ive always preferred decat and for £35 exhaustsuk were going to put a cat in before the test and remove it same day afterwards if it was needed. The systems were new from them and straight through with no decat pipe (bolt in) so they would have had to redo this but they would also keep the cat afterwards.

Speak to a few places and see what they can do but having the decat and cat is a good idea should you ever need it!

Oh and only recently found out that a guy through another forum would do a thorough MOT as normal but help with emissions if needed ;) No good now but would have been had they failed.

This is how 75% of information on the internet forums works..

Starts off with..

The new owner doesn;t know if it can have one fitted or not, so asks if one HAS to be fitted.

Hi all,
Got my MOT next month and i am not very confident it will pass. Does anyone who has a F/I car had an MOT who can offer advice or what you did to get it to pass the emissions. I dont have a cat so i think that may be the downfall.

Cue:

Loads of responses about its like stamping on a childs grave to drive without a CAT

This was one of the reasons I didn't buy this car, You are going to have to find a way of getting the cat in there, go to Longlife or a similar custom exhaust place, they should be able to chop your straight pipe and weld a couple of flanges in there so you can put the cat in.

Initial dig at the car, and or previous work done.

-----------------------

Then it gets better

People are going to get Fucked now.

same

some idiot hasn't had the foresight to realise that he is going to have to put a cat on this car for the mot.

what if the police pull you over tommorow and look under the car. your FUCKED cause it doesnt have a cat and it doesnt have the ability to take one so they will know you have willingly removed it and as such will charge you with whatever is appropriate

And its now re-itterated that the car has had shocking workmanship and this owner thinks his car is going to land him a fine or point or some other bollocks

tru dat.

still... i think its shocking workmanship/design to exclude a cat completely

I had the Exhaust system made,

Its a WORK OF ART, and its got a Nissan Sized 3'' Decat.

Fit a 76mm / 3'' Nissan Cat, like fitted to 200sx's Almeras, Primera, Micras.. and it will pass Emissions.

Posts like the above are completly unconstructive and are the bane of real tuners like myself, D-Bull and the other VVL, Turbo guys out there.

No offence RA-JAckson.. but your completly wrong

Other input from Corbs was useful, but the car just wants a standard cat fitting.

4 BOLTS.

I would just put a Cat in but the one i have is cut at both ends and the current exhaust on my car is one pipe to the rear box from the mani

That, my friend, is the reason everyone is saying stuff. If that's not true, then fair enough. But designing an exhaust system where a cat CANNOT be fitted is just stupidity, hence the responses.

I think you are taking this a little too personally.

Was that aimed at me or the OP?..

The system is designed for a normal nissan cat to fit..
~
MY resonse is in no way personal, it applies to loads of threads about Air bag lights, Nats, Cats and decats, insurance, tints, exhaust volume, stretching tires.. etc etc

Where miss informed statments taken as fact and then spouted onwards as such, just cause offense and confusion...and in many cases completly needless expense.

It was aimed at you, and I was explaining WHY people were getting riled.

You say the system is designed for a normal Nissan cat to fit, that's fine. ChrisB said it was straight pipe from manifold back, that's not fine.

If we arent supposed to take "misinformed statements" as fact from THE OWNER OF THE CAR then what do you want us to do?

To be perfectly honest Corbs.. Could it be any easier to whip 4 bolts off to swap a cat in? Lol
I was gonna say that lol, a regular spray of wd40 should keep the rust away shouldn't it, or stainless steel bolts? Dunno if you can get those though. :(

No statements of fact were made from the OP.. or any thereafter posts.

Plenty statements of fact were made by everyone else..

All it takes is:

Listen bud, make SURE you cannot fit a CAT as it would be silly//unwise/retarded for somone whos had a system fitted, have it made so a CAT cannot be fitted.

Simple.

The posts made by most in this thread are just effective at offending/scarmongering the car owner, and pushing them into spending money where it neednt be spent.

So the owners thinks he cant fitt a cat beacause there isnt one in there at the moment (assumptions)... but actually the system was designed so a Cat could be slipped in swaped with the decat?

If so whats the problem?

There isn't a problem with the car..

Ive made a sore point that he was insulted and flamed by miss-informed members on here

Wiki: Troll

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[2]

OH MY GOD!

Get the hint Kristian,

WE WERE MISINFORMED BY THE OWNER OF THE CAR

Calm down! nobody has trolled in the thread so I have no idea why you have posted that irrelevant description.

This thread is very funny :D

You should all take a look back at it and read it from the beginning :point:

He only really needed a once sentence answer in the first place.

Christ what a load of bitches :D

I'm lost here, so i'm going to simplify it for my own means, perhaps this way hally and kristian can see what i've taken from this thread.

- OP states that his car has no cat.
- OP states that the downpipe to mid section is all one piece. This makes me assume that where a cat would normally go, the downpipe has simply been extended to meet the Exhaust mid section. Thus if a cat was to be retro fitted, you would have to cut the downpipe down and weld a flange to it in order to fit a CAT.
- Few people say that's silly, not making a downpipe that incorporates a CAT, whether it be a de-cat for real cat in between the 2 sections. I dont think people care whether the car has a cat or not, they care/worry why there isn't a fabrication to slot one in
- Kristian says that there is such a fabrication and a normal cat can be put in with four bolts. No hassle
- Hally just reiterates what he thought the OP was getting at.

Seems all we need is the OP to clarify what he meant or we take Kristians word that it can have a normal Nissan cat fitted as there is a decat there at the moment and the idea of there being an extended all one piece downpipe is noncence.

Simples???
