Fitting a vacuum gauge - Ga16

right, gauge is in. whats up with my engine. on idle at appx 800-900 rpm its very rapidly fluctuating over the 20 mark

could it be the gauge, its about 20 years old

onto the FPR, same place as JClark.

ive bought a new one there off the bay.

modifications to the engine are, timing brought forward by appx 2mm, straight through back box on standard exhaust system, K&N air filter plonked on top of the inlet (i know, tut tut), and ive adjusted the idle speed too.

the car was running a bit funny on idle when i got it, was a bit low and lumpy, seems to have improved a bit but not a great deal.

from cold the engine sits about 1200-1300rpm, i assume this is the automatic choke? when warm, about 850-900rpm

Your idle sounds perfectly fine, and if it stays steady at about 20" then that's also a good sign of a healthy engine.

Great guide mate, I've copied it to the How To section if that's alright with you (although I just realised you can't read it yourself as you aren't a paid member! lol)

Also just bought a guage from eBay! :)

James.
