Front end damage to Ph1 GTI HELP!!!

i think that "flimsy bit of metal" was your slam panel...

ive always thought the slam panel was the horizontal above the headlamps whre you slam the bonnet down.

But that bent piece off metal is the bumper support, without it you couldnt fit the bumper to the car

As for the apparently missing "slam panel", every phase 1 almera ive seen never came with them as the ends that are bolted into the end of the chassis legs do not have any bracket and bolt holes to allow this rectangular section tube to be bolted across. Only on p[hase 2 almeras have i seen this bar. Very flimsy aswell i might add

GTi stu is selling bits from a p1 GTi, i can recommend him as i bought bonnet and grill from him today, nice guy and easy to do bussiness with. pm him.

am gutted for you mate, looks like a lovely p1 GTi.
hope you get it sorted.
dan.

I read about the slam panel on this thread:

http://www.almeraownersclub.net/showthread.php?t=25728

Chris180's post shows it clearly(cheers for the paint comment buy the way, original too)

I think i've sourced everything but the rad so far, will keep you updated

Cheers,

Graham

yeah thats the thread i startied for my front end damage, am hopeing to get the bumper off this weekend, i will post pictures when i do, but i do work night so it will be dark!!...

As stated earlier in the thread the dog didn't turn up at the vets and nobody owned up to owning it, given up on that one! Good news is i have a new valance, bumper support and rad to be picked up on saturday and indicators ordered. Any recommendations for GOOD spray shops in the bristol area? Also thought about a general tune when she's back on the road?

Cheers,

Graham

Getting there now, eventually got the right sized rad and the indicators are ready to go in. Bumper arrived and has splitter screwed and stuck to it, all cleaned up now ready for spraying on friday. Fingers crossed i might have her straight and back on the road next week:D

Sorry bout the crap pic:

Cheers,

Getting closer all the time now(thank god!), would've been sorted yester but for the cold:(

New rad is in and doing a fine job, valance sprayed and indicators ready. Just though i'd sort out some rust on the offside wing before the valance goes back on not knowing how long it was gonna take! Getting the rust out wasn't a prob, but waiting for the stopper/primer to harden before getting stuck in with the wet and dry just took forever in the cold! Had a lamp sat right infront of it to offer a little heat but still didn't get it done, might be skiving work tomorrow to get it sorted, it's just begging me do drive it!

A couple of pics (Note shiny new valance straddling the imp in the last pic;))

Cheers,

Graham

Cheers Bud!:D

It's just killing me not being able to drive it, i'm borrowing a 2ltr laguna at the mo and it's like driving a tanker in comparison, both in size and feel!:lol:

Well i'ts finally back on the road(thank the sweeeeeeet lorrrd!)

Felt so good to drive again, still got the grille to spray and fit(hence the wobbly one in the pic held together with copper wire;)) and decide what to do about the fogs, might not bother with them yet and mesh the holes, we'll see. Will post a couple of better pics once she's cleaned on the weekend, but here's a crap phone one for now:

Cheers,

Cheers fella's!

The paint match was brilliant really, thankfully the cars paint is still pretty good and once i've taken some rubbing compound to the overspray it'll be groovy.;)

As for the fogs the jury is still out, only one of the original ones survived(not sure which from memory) i have some mesh i blagged from work so will check it for looks on the weekend. Also gotta get the tow hitch cover sitting sweetly, the back was damaged slightly but i think it'll be zip tied on from now on!

To be honest the whole accident/repair situation has really sparked a new enthusiasm in me for the car, dont get me wrong i've always LOVED it but now i just cant wait to get stuck into a couple of niggles and sort them out. Still thinking of a slight tune as a treat, any ideas?(she's standard)

Cheers,

G

I say #1 Manifold-Header!!!! Trust me its one of the best mods to do for the money, look into it try and find one buy it keep it to the side and fit it when the time is right.

ssac manifold, de cat, bigger cat back and a filter. tried and tested many times with inevitable smiley faces :)

Still not the best pic, but at least it shows more of the car. Just Waiting for the paint to dry on the new grille now;)
