Hi guys,

I'm just about to purchase an N15 Almera V-reg Equation 1400cc to replace my sadly deceased Toyota Corolla that some nit thought he could reverse a lorry into for a laugh

So of course it's that time again! trying to find an insurance quote that won't totally screw me over! I'm only 19 and have been driving for 1 year with 0 NCB so finding a quote under 1500 squids is hard even with the lower insurance group almera :(

Could anyone recommend any insurers who give good quotes but most of all good service? I've tried the usual, Direct Line, Elephant (what a joke) Liverpool Victoria etc but I'm not going to go with Churchill again because they spent nearly a year sorting out a claim that wasn't my fault because I wasn't even in the car (it was parked) and even then I had to claim on my own policy, because apparently an eyewitness isn't enough these days.

The other question is: Does anybody know which version of NATS is fitted to the above model of Almera? If I know that I can give the insurance doodahs the right info for the quote, but I didn't realise that there were 6 or so versions of it around.

Thanks all, I'll have a browse around now! :)
Pete

There is an insurance thead at the top of the general section so you may be able to get a guide on prices and different insurance companies that people have used from there.

Where in south wales do you live?

I'm with JonnyRad. Quinn direct are really cheap, and very good. on TPFT you get a third party extension to drive any car.

They're ok with mods that aren't 'performance enhancing' too. Which my powerflow system isn't. or so I blagged.

i dont get why people have to pay so much for insurance. are those qoutes fully comp?

try admiral under your own policy
make sure you put down you have been driving for 1 year
keep your milage to a minimum
keep the car off the road ie garage or drive way
if you want cheaper premium then you can raise your excess but i wouldnt recoment it
and finaly the one thing that has saved me so much money on insurance
find 2 people 30-50 in your family who have clean licences and no claims and put them down as NAMED drivers.

i was 18 when i got my gti and paid just over a grand tpft :) hope that helps

thanks for all the helpful replies!

The problem I have is that I really need fully comp insurance, I'm living off my student loan at the moment and I really can't afford to pay out if my car gets damaged. That's why I'd rather pay a little more and have that covered for me.

Does adding the named drivers really lower the quote? I put my girlfriend on there and it cost me nothing more so that's ok, but I'll see about adding more, thanks!

Quinn direct are the cheapest for me so far, 1350 big ones :( but that's better than the quotes I was getting! Also quinn direct have the best compulsory excess, only 135 pounds for me, almost all the others want £400 for a driver under 21 :(

I'm in Cwmcarn, about 7 miles from Newport btw. :)

cheers guys, anyone know anything about the NATS question?

edit: Looks like it's not going to be cheap anywhere :(

keep trying, you guys in england are lucky, there seems to be so many insurance companies for you's to choose from, we dont have as many as you's, also, as someone said above, try adding another person onto your policy (preferably female) adding my girlfriend on mine reduced it by 100euros, shes 20, provisional license and no experience!! haha

I got my insurance with Norwich Union and i had my pass plus i was paying £1260 with no ncb and I was 17 at the time. the car was a Nissan Almera 1.4 GX

thats a brilliant price

oh yeah my excess was 550

The only Norwich Union would either match the price or beat it (by £3.26  ) i'd have to have an excess of £1020

As they say up in Scotshire "Away and shite!"

Got my insurance from Admiral

O NCB, just passed, Nissan Almera 1.5 5dr = £860 fully comp (£250 excess)

That's exactly the kind of quote I'd be all over like a rash......

I take it you're 19 like me, so you've had a full licence for 0 years and a more powerful car.................... :(

how can they justify quoting me £1700 then?? damn it admiral!

btw, is it always worth phoning up to try and haggle them down some or not? The online quotes are usually supposedly 10% off but I doubt that...

Quinn Direct's excess is only £135 so they're my top choice so far.

Keep the tips coming guys, I'm really grateful!

edit: is that the compulsory excess as well? and is that annual or 10 month?

I was 19 when i got it yes and it was the 10 month NCB starter policy...

That was voluntary excess - im just loaded...

Personally you'll have more success modding your 1.4 N15 almera than i will with my N16 church of a car

heh I don't even want to mod it, just enjoy it :D and of course stuff some sounds in it at some point ;)

I don't know how anybody affords to insure their mods when I can't even insure a stock car for less than twice what I pay for it :(

my last car cost me 150 and the cheapest insurance possible was 1000 under my gilfriend's mum's name, otherwise it would have been 2000 squid, that was an H reg 1300cc :'(

Well then again Polmont (where i live) has been voted one of the three safest places to live in Scotland - which always helps :D :D :D

Average age of your neighbour here is 55!!! LoL Codgersville!

hahaha nice! Unfortunately there's quite a bit of car crime in my area :( bastards!!!!

and my parent's place is in East Sussex so that's an extra £50 quid just for being in the "rich" south east.... :(
