not sure but my mate has done it on both of his cars and he has never had a problem. I got HID's anyway so they are brighter then normal.Phil_GT said:

I'm looking around for HID's myself, tends to happen when my projects grinds to a halt! 
get detracted with other upgrades.

Probably go for the last option as its compact since there's isn't much space in the engine bay left. Think 6k would be ideal. Also as I've lost the angle control on the headlights the lights won't be looking anywhere but down which I imagine makes it legal ? lol

the ebay, CA and Xenon shop UK Ballasts are all the same size

I was referring to the ballasts rather than the bulb? Supposedly they're more compact than the others? but again these are all photos so its hard to compare really.

From what I know all the ballasts are all the same size. and I would not be fussed at what size the ballasts are just hide it under the front bumper
