Howdy

Hi there,

I used to be a member on here a while back and had a black Ph2 GTi a couple of years ago, sold it to some chap from Preston. It wasn't ever going to set the world on fire but I have my 205 MI16 for those laughs but I remember my GTi being the pinacle of reliability and really do miss it.

Currently looking at coming back to the 'Mera fold and getting another GTi. This time a blue or trop green one. Also maybe looking at a turbo project as well to make it more speedy gonzalez. I loved the Almera but for the car it was it was just too slow. This time around I will make it better.

Here's my old one:

i swear almeras are more a disease than a car. almeritis. once youve had it you cant get rid.

welcome back dude :)

Haha sounds like it :P

Having a few thoughts about an Almera now, I always hated the looks of the N16s but seen a couple 3 door Sport and Flares around and reckon they look ok. What's the 1.8 lump in the Sport like? I know it won't be as grunty as the GTi (surely not?) but if it's any cop it might be worth a look. There's a black 2000 Almera Sport on fleabay which is on less than a grand and no doubt the insurance will be a bit less as it's not a "GTi". I'm not sooo worried about speed because like I said I have my 205 Mi16 insured and road worthy now for my adrenaline fix.

What are the interiors like on the later Almeras (Almerae?)? Been driven around in a base model 5 door and the interior looked and felt terrible. If they do feel really tacky compared to the N15 then Ill stick to the original plan methinks.

well they're french so...
Eh? Almeras are made in onion land? I don't think so.

Or are you referring to the 205? If so, it goes like holy shite mate, should happily see off pretty much all the GTis on here ;) I don't care how unreliable it is (let's not get into this again, I seem to remember a long slagging thread on this last time), because when it goes, it fooking flies  In fact that's why I sold my Almera last time because I was bored of it being so slow in comparison. That's not a problem anymore since my 205 is the weekend fun car.

Anyway I was asking about how the later Almera Sports etc compare to the N15 GTis. Insurance should be a bit less but I don't really want second best in terms of comfort/interior quality/handling.

Edit: Also do you guys have a deal with GSF car parts perchance? I know that stands for German, Swedish and French but they do Nissan parts too, and a 10% discount on anything is always a helpful thing.

i was messing mate, referring to the nissan/renault partnership thing.

think that happened in 1999 so just joking that N16s have a french influence and as such are tacky and unreliable

defo not talking bout the 205, i'd love one

not sure on interiors or engine really, i'm not a big fan of how they look inside, and haven't really been in them much so can't comment. GTi all the way! ;)

Hehe no worries.

Good point about the partnership, that would explain the tackiness although it's definitely the Renault influence, somehow Pugs have always been less plasticky than Renaults. Yeah you might be onto a winner I reckon, the interior in my S plate GTi felt solid and aged really well. I might have a look at an N16 but I think my heart is definitely wanting to go back to the G to the T to the i :)

Just a little info here guys - I know you're both into N15's, but the interior of my 1.8 N16 is just fine thank u. It doesn't look cheap or tacky IMO & I've owned an Audi A4 (the last word in interior design). Maybe it's just cos I've got the SXE model ie. no blanked off switches or panels. The 1.8 engine ain't gonna set the world on fire but it's ok. It is slower than a standard Gti, but not much. My 1/4 ml time is only 1/3 of a sec slower. So if you have a fast w/end toy already, you could do worse . . . . . .

only messin mate, just some friendly n15/n16 rivalry!

what's your 1/4 mile time you speak of?

 Well I'm just about to eat my own words, lol - Chris's standard Gti put in a 16.28 & mine's was a 17.24 ! So a whole 1 sec of difference - not a lot on the road, but plenty on the drag strip ! Shucks, oh well I had to defend my N16. We like em' as much as you do N15's

Just you wait 'til Spring - one ATB LSD, set of lowering springs and Rotrex supercharger later . . . . . .
