Howdy

If anyone has the choice between an N16 and a GTi and ends up with the N16 questions must be asked....

Yeah . . . questions like these ; does the Gti have a whacking mileage with no service history ? Does the N16 come with a warranty ? Is the Gti rusting badly because it's not looked after ? Which offers cheaper insurance ? Has the Gti been thrashed to within an inch of its life ?

Sorry Sam - everyone knows the Gti offers better performance & handling out of the crate, but the N16 is getting an unfair hearing from people who are supposed to be Almera fans. I happen to like the Gti, but I chose the N16 model because it's newer, better equipped, easier to get parts for & I prefer the styling. But that's just my opinion - everyone's different & has a right to be. If there's one thing this club should be together on it's the fact that we're ALL Almera drivers and have our own choice - no matter what model. There are plenty out there who are so ready to diss any 'Mera, so a united front would be more helpful. :)

Here here. Every word of that post made sense mate. I once again WELCOME you to the club :)

*sigh* this whole thread seems to have turned into another N16 bash again after reading back. I too have the SXE and the interior feels quality. Sure it's not up with the the likes of VW/Audi, but it's better than what I've seen on Toyota and other cars. I've been in a GTi and thnking back I wasnt that impressed by the interior quality??

If the partnership was in 1999 it blows the idea that the N16 is renualt completly out the water....cars take years to design with testing etc before being put into production, so by 1999 the N16 would have pretty much been finished by Nissan. It would explain why there's a number of bits on the N16 that are the same in the P11.

Well those questions are irrelevant if you are careful selecting one and don't just buy the first battered one you come across on eBay.

Fair enough, solidarity brother and all that, but I can't help it if I don't like the looks of the N16 can I? It's like me saying I love the 206, the successor to the 205 when I think it's a girly heap of junk.

Yeah loads of people queue up to diss the Almera, and in all fairness the majority are driven by Grandads in flat caps. Took me a long deliberation before I chose to own one and having done so I'm glad I did, hence wanting to get another one. Just because the face lift model isn't as good to look at as the older one who in the grand scheme cares??

I didn't mean for this to turn into an N16 bashing thread, perhaps you guys are too sensitive, or maybe people should just agree to disagree.

(Warning following comment may contain traces of personal opinion...) Now based on my experiences of the N16 (admittedly a 5 door base model, but I assume the interiors are mad eof the same stuff) I didn't like it. I thought it was tacky and flimsy whereas I remember the interior of my old GTi being pretty solid. Not the most aesthtically pleasing but solid. Also drove a mate's Corolla VVTi 1.8 and again not beautiful to look at but functional and solid.

Calm down lads, it's not a witch hunt.

Sorry yeah I'm not usual that sensitive it's just that the N16 gets bad rep on this forum all the time. There's no agument from me about someone not liking the looks of the N16. I mean I'm going to change the nose of mine because I'm not keen on the grille layout anyway! heh. Also wasnt saying anything about the look of the GTi interior. No point getting into a debate about asthetics because looks are something that is each to their own :D

Heh again, I'm calm it's just I cracked cause I hear it so much in my own club it hurts sometimes *cries*:lol::lol:

on 2 occasions ive nearly set my heart on an N16 P2 2.2 136 dci. only price stopped me. personally i can live with N16s. only reason they never took off and get a slating is because the engines arent what they used to be, bar the 2.2 136 dci. not having a dig, its just that the 1.8 in all honesty is a bit weak. in comparison with bolt on exhaust and a filter my 1.4 rana 17.4 1/4, although after 70-80 mph a 1.8 N16 would leave me standing. might have just been wrong day wrong time for the 1.8 or everythin was perfect for my 1.4. on the road i might have got whooped. who knows. my theory is, if you like it, buy it. at least almerasleeper is safe in the knowledge his N16 aint gonna set the world alight, its just a crying shame they never SR20'd the N16. cant comment on the interiors because the only new cars ive been in are the ex's 03 plate clio and me neighbours 03 plate 100 edition vectra. personally i think the N15 interior is plasticy rattly and solid in places....
