Is Nissan really Renault???

^indeed :)

and its been said the the YD is a solid lump, and there's not a huge difference between the Di and DCi, i mean it's the same block for one. part numbers match all over the shop. as for the rest of the car it's all nissan, and the interior controls are Calsonic, nissan's go to place, and in the phase 2 the computer gizmo thing is supplied by Navteq which doesnt supply to Renault acording to their list.

don't worry alfantastic :) there's plenty of evidence to show that the N16 is hugely Nissan, esp. the petrol versions, as they are prob 100% Nissan. If it's diesel it's prob 5% Renault as in engine stuff as noted. :)

apart from all the bolts and fixing's, were all chaneged over to renaults stupid french sized ones(and cheap assed coated), as well as much of the electrics, and most of the suppliers. The micra suffered greatly with electrical problems.
Calasonic is 50% owned by Nissan, staffed however with mostly morons.

Which leads me to believe that Renault had more fingers in the DCi pie post 2003 cars.
Mine was built March 2003. When i buy my oil filters from the Nissan dealer, they always ask if mine is a canister or paper type filter. The reason being is that it is right on the changeover point of engine design. Now why would they radically change the oil filtration system? Mmmmmmmmmm. I reckon old paper type filter is purely Nissan and canister is Renault influenced.

Wrong way round mate, Nissans is canister and renaults/french cars like paper inserts. As I already said, renault has been supplying diesel engines for ages, way before the share exchange, they used to be fitted in the old K11's but only to certain countrys as renault didnt want them selling them in countrys like ours which have had a long affair with diesels.

As for the X-trail it's the exact same engine, but the intercooler is different. For some reason the X-Trails seem to have more horror stories, but you're more likely to hear about the bad stuff as that's what gets talked about and posted about in forums. It's the same with the Primera P12 DCi. Loads of people post about the problems so that's what you'll hear about. Someone running 100k plus and who hasnt had any problems isnt going to post a thread about it.

dont get me wrong, the french make good diesel engines and have done for a lot longer than the other companys. Always a soft spot for french diesels for me, they are the way a diesel should be, cheap to buy, cheap to run. A perfect runabout. Their electircs however are dire.

The P12 had massive electrics problems, due to bad earths amoung other things. Would that be Renault getting it wrong there then Naylor? The Almera's seem to be pretty good *touch wood*.

even om the K11 micras, the last batch, they had renault washer bottle pumps

ive got a vivaro cdti (nissan renault vauxhall) heap of shit, the electrics on it are disgracefull, most of the wires are thinner than car speaker wire, hence why when the cb is on in the van it gets a shit load of interfearance.

and the K12 micra and mk3 clio shares a lot of parts, pedal assemble etc.

and the new renault kalos (4x4 thing) is based on the new nissan xtrail!

most of the evidence seems to be if it breaks it must be a renault part? nissan can get stuff wrong too, cant just blame renault for every little part that fails.

didnt nissan get in the shit for producing cars that were too reliable? ie non broke down so garages were quite, nobody bought parts because they didnt really need them etc, remember being told that happened early 90's iirc. could be an old wifes tale though, but still if it breaks they get money, faults listed are mostly small so unless your comparing to n15's etc you would think they were normal.

dont buy new cars is the simple solution, old cars tend to break less and cost less to fix if they do, plus i just cant see the appeal in a new one, after all your 09 plate or whatever the new one is will be considered out of date in a week, just buy an N reg and live with it.

I'm very happy with my '53 plate :)

Steve, you've been on a thanking spree...

Definitely happy with my '03 DCi SXE. Had an Alfa 3.0 GTV before, which always had niggley little problems. Expensive!!! As they say, you buy an Alfa with your heart, not your head. Have reversed that saying with the Nissan
