looking to buy an almera

true but she could just then buy a si/sri and save mone on her insurance and buy some coilovers/wheels/filter/exhaust
or buy a std gti and be skint for no mods ah ;)

Hi and a premature welcome to the club Gemma. As said above get an Si if you want 1.4 and look for rusty arches.

apparently females crash less

It's not that guys have more accidents, it's just that guys have faster, more destructive accidents that are harder to drive away from and pretend they didn't happen than a scrape in the supermarket car-park.

The attitude of the insurance industry can be summed up as "At least old people and women know they are shit drivers".

Welcome Gem! I'd go for an SRi if you can stretch your money a little more the 1.6 has about 10 bhp more but deffo is alot better you don't have to work the engine as hard to get going. Reagrding MPG I'm not sure on the actual figures but there won't be alot in it.

Insurance wise I think the Si is group 5 And SRi is 7!

Look out for rust on wheel arches, sills , rear suspension turrets and rear seatbelt mounting points!

In my experience, most of the Almera Engines do similar MPG for the same driving, like day to day cruising, my 1.6 SRi did roughly 35 MPG, I then swapped out the engine for a 2.0l, and it still does the same MPG when just cruising around.
Obviously when hammering it there is a difference.
For a first Almera I'm definitely recommend either the Si (1.4) or the SRi (1.6) , those two being the best of each engine.
The spec is similar on both, but the SRi has the full GTi interior from the factory :)
Welcome
Joe

My Mum had a P10 Primera 1.6 Lx and claims to have got 44mpg out of it quite often, and thats the same engine as the Almera SRi so they can be very economical if you want them to be

i got 41mpg outta my modified 1.6 on my aberdeen expedition so as alan says they can be a good fuel saver if driven properly

If you want a 1.4 then get an Si.

The Sri is quicker and has a better interior and won't be that much more to insure.

Use confused.com to see the difference as it's really easy just to go in and edit a quote for car model etc.

Usually more competative quotes can be had if going direct... but for most lazy people sure

I never said she should actually BUY from confused, it's just a fast indicator of what's cheaper/more expensive to insure. :)

Hi gemma

ive got the 1.4 Si as my first car and i have to say i couldnt have really asked for more out of a first car. Good fun to drive, relatively cheap to run and compared to other 1.4's its quite abit faster as ive experienced through other peoples cars at college.

if you can afford the insurance on a 1.6 Sri then id defo go for that, the only reason i didnt is cos my insurance is £1900 on my 1.4  but thats just cos im a guy!
