n00b in Taunton needs hayelp!!

hi all,

Just got an Si off a garage, it had been sat for a few weeks and the battery was flat, so they boosted it from another car, first time started, ticked over nicely, rest of car was ok for age (98) so I got it.

Turned off engine, got all the forms etc, then went to start and drive off ... turned ignition key, nothing .... turned off, then back to on, waited a few seconds and then tried again, but still nothing.

Guy in the garage said to press the immobiliser button which I did and then turned key again, and it started ... guy in the garage said, does that sometimes....

Drove home, all fine, nice enough for its age I thought. Turned engine off when home ... then looked at a few bits and thought I'd start it up again ... but nothing, tried pressing the button again like I did when at the garage, but still nothing.

Been trying for the last hour or so but still can't get it started.

Def got battery charge as all lights/radio works etc.

Can't ring garage as now closed until monday .... seems like I might be ringing em and getting my money back if I can't figure this out, any ideas anyone??

p.s - i've tried the nats resetting thing from the manual that came with car, but no joy!

Dead battery in the FOB?

Try jumping again and se what happens
I know of a few cars that had enough to power dash lights...just not to turn over

Thought about dead battery in fob, but when I press it I can hear clicks in the engine somewhere, and it locks n unlocks the central locking, so it' still live.

I've just 5 mins ago tried jumping again, but still nothing, left the 2 cars connected for 10 mins and tried starting the Si but still nothing....

Sat here now looking at me luvely red si and I can't drive it, waaaaaaaa!:(

Charged the battery last night, refitted this morning still nothing.

Battery in the key fob has got to be alreet ent it, seeing as though it does the central locking?

I've even checked that no fuses were blown, but nothing.

Looks like I'll have to wait for the garage to open tomorrow, and give em what for.

edit: - just seen this post on the forum about ignition probs going to try the rocking myself see if anythings diff.

when you turn the key absolutly nothing happens?? def the battery. check all the connections and grounds and fuses in engine bay. battery may be duff!

SORTED!!

Finally!

Read that thread on the starter motor, and TADA ... that's what my prob is.

Gave it a little whack with a spanner and tried the ignition again, and it started, woooooo!

Turned it off, waited a few secs, tried again, nothing, tried again and again still nothing ... gave the starter motor a little whack with the spanner a few times, tried to start again, and TADAAA!

Just been for a drive, man I loves it, nippy little thing, but then anything will be faster than my 306 estate muwahahahaha!

Anyhoo, looks like I'll need to get a new starter motor as I'm buggered if I can be arsed to give the current one a whack each time just to get it going ... makes me feels like fred flinstone!

Thkx for the suggestions/help peepz.

wicked glad you got it sorted!

Took it back to the garage this evening, guy said that he could get it going everytime, just by wiggling the ignition key when starting it.

Showed me, and everytime it started first time.

Said is was something in the ignition barrel that was loose and that he would sort it out for me tomorrow.

Sounds fine with me, aslong as I can start it everytime.

Although now me mrs says she doesn't like it and doesn't want to drive it around shopping etc .... fine i've said I'll drive it and you can drive the 306 estate ... but no she wants to sell the 306 and the almera ... and get a 206 ... FFS ... no pleasing some women!!
