The one thing I HATE about the N16 has to be the vision from the headlights.
It's piss poor and not the best thing when going around Galway, Mayo or Roscommon at night.

Any idea's on how I can improve the strenght of the lihts or otherwise?

I'd hold on that thought - i read it somewhere that they were illegal to retro fit them onto a car tha never had them... However manufacturers like BMW, Merc, Porsche etc already had them fitted so the police couldnt do anything about them

Plus browsing through Demon Tweeks catalogue and they say HID Conversion Kits are for off-road/show use only so i'm trying to find out if they're legal or not

Can you not just buy brighter bulbs like the brilliance ones????..as a quick fix anyhow

Nissan put out a recall on the headlights, mine were done when it was serviced. They altered the aim and changed the bulbs. They're much better now.

N16 headlamps are far from the brightest but they are in par with most cars I ever drove. The reason why many people complain about them is manufacturing fault present in many of N16 phase two lamps - mirrors in clusters are contaminated with bits of plastic and injection points from moulding process and once heated by halogen bulbs they melt changing shape of the mirror and screwing up the beam. In my previous 'mera I went through two sets of headlamps under warranty before they sourced properly finished ones. I still keep set of headlamps in the loft just in case.

It's quite easy to check - set your headlamps to 3 - one step below highest setting, if you can't see very clear edge of the beam, slightly higher on one side, your headlamps are most likely disfigured...

Dodgy headlights

It's a known fact that the N16 headlights have a fault where the plastic housing holding the driving bulbs can warp, melt or snap. Does anyone know if Nissan are recalling cars to have them replaced? Or know a site i can go to check out recall data. Heard rumours that they are!!!

Yes Nissan are recalling some N16 for headlights.
The easy way to check is to pop in or call your local dealer with your vin numbers and they will check for you.
I think it is from a 2003 model onwards.

If your model is affected they will replace both front headlamps for you.

Thankyou Tech1 uk. This could be the good bit of news i'm looking for. Oh and save me a fist load of cash. Regards.

Hi, I have an october 2000 1.5 n16, (ph1). Its standard.

What does twin and single headlamps refer to on an N16?

SMSAlmer - the bulbs in your headlights are 1x H7 and 1x H1

H7 is for dipped beam and H1 is for full beam - i should know cos i fannied about wityh my bulbs trying to replace them and cut a few fingers :O

I guess I am going to have this done as well when I get my car in for service.
