N16 Nissan 4 Pots brakes HELP!! Servo

Hey all,

Just getting my my 4 pots Nissan calipers fitted with the Hel Braided lines & AP racing Dot 5.1 fluid, the mechanic said they feel really spongy said I need an upgraded servo..??

I'm clueless anybody else had issues..?

Cheers guys

Generally more pistons mean more fluid and the standard master cylinder is normally matched to the standard size single piston calipers so the pedal will travel further in order to flow the required brake fluid.

That'sy understanding anywsy

The pedal travel has increased due to the increase in pistons and fluid amount.

They will feel spongy but you will be able to modulate the brake pedal better.

Thanks Sam & CoV, appreciate your help guys.

The mechanic told me yesterday, the feel was spongy, but today he checked it again & said the pedal went all the way to the floor, he said he has had to rebleed them & now feel like they did yesterday. Is this normal..?

Is your mechanic Bert or Ernie?

Bleed the rears too.

You get an extra few mm of pedal travel with the 4pots, but i like it because it allows you to use the brakes softly instead if them biting instantly.

Take it for a drive, use the brakes hard, come back to the garage and bleed again, there will probs be bubbles in the calipers that will be pushed upwards under use.

New pads and discs are they? Either way they will be more spongy not just because of what Liam says but also before they are bedded in. Mine were like this.

Thanks fellas! No Ed the pads+315mm disc (took an inch of them) are used but the Hel hoses up front were new.

That's great I thought the new brakes were going to bite hard, the rear lines have been put in & bled aswell thanks for the advice Liam.

I'll let Bertyernie no about what you guys said.

I Love you guys!!

They will bite hard if you push past the travel quickly.

I can brake gently as though im on standard brakes, but if i stamp on the pedal if does funny things to your face.

The mechanic said that he took the rim off & started it whilst on the ramp to check & said he accelarated to 3k & it had to be pumped a lot to stop it. The reason why it hasn't been driven is the TE37 alloys are just touching the 'NISSAN' on them & I didn't want to go down the shaving it off route like our Aussie bud on here ;) , he also said it seemed as though the disc was slightly bucked as there was small movement when it was being pumped.? Don't know if that because it was being worked continuously..?

I've got 5mm spacers on order should be here tommorow, sure it could have been ok with 2-3mm just for the record.

I thought the front lines were really long & they had to be looped & tucked away, & hence this spongy pedal but you guys have given me reassurance now :) .

Took the car today to get the bleeding done after using the brakes hard on a quick run & got them hot, bleeding took place & there was no traces of air in the system, at this point the dude said the brakes feel abit firmer then before but pedal still travels to the floor, so the mechanic started banging on about me needing a bigger servo despite me already telling him all your advice.

Then a mechanic from another garage who walked in at that point said that it has nothing to do with the servo, & advised him to check each caliper individually to find out which 1 it is. So he got this piler like tool & blocked the hose to check them all.
Now the passenger side wheel doesn't move free flow but with friction (pads touching disc), but when you press the brake alittle then wheel becomes loose again. I've now been told that I need a new hoses as they've 1 has pcollapsed :( & smaller ones as there will be less travel & my current hoses are an mot fail.

Saving a few inches in length of brake hose isn't going to make hardly any difference. Think how long the brake pipes are from the master cylinder anyway!!! Your problem (my guess) is with the bleeding, and/or a faulty master cylinder.
