hi there i have just got a p reg 2.0 16 valve almera with 56k on the clock as a cheap motor after writing of my gtir a while ago! what power do these have standard and what mods do you fit? will my hks induction kit of the gtir fit it?

thanks

do you have one of these mate? have u modded it at all? thinking exhaust with decat and that, does anyone have one for sale or know where to get one?

I aint got one no, plenty of places for CAT backs , Powerflow etc people that make custom CAT backs as I dont know of any premade N15 Chassis fitting systems

De-Cat pipe, wouldnt have a clue, any exhaust fitter would probably be able to make one for ya

SSAutochrome & Hotshot Exhaust Manifolds are worth a look into aswell, both of which come pretty recomended on here

The SR20DE isn`t as easily tuned as your GTI-R mate. A good SS exhaust, decat, manifold & filter should see getting on for approx 160bhp. Cams approx another 10bhp, headwork approx another 10bhp.

you can get about 233hp max out of the 1.6 GA16DE engine (SRi model)
the SR20DE should be worth at least hundred more in max effect

233bhp from a 1.6 engine  has anyone ever achieved it yet?

Are we talking reliable power here?

Rowdy is right with those estimations of about 180-190bhp with header/zort/cams and headwork all good things are possible and I personally have these kind of figures at the moment. The other thing to bear in mind is having it all mapped out properly for the most aggressive fuel map! If you are looking for the kind of figures that you will be use to with a Gtir then forget it! Unless you fancy fitting a 75 shot N20 system in, this will really get to into some great numbers without having to beef up the bottom end. As like your Gtir its built like a brick shithouse mate

Any questions just ask mate! ;)

It has been done in the states by Hotshot as they do a Turbo kit for this engine and its been Dyno'd as this already, not bad atall for 1.6 litres!

after driving a 1.4 Mera for the past few days i have decided i would love to buy a GTi in a year or so, but are the running costs anymore expensive, MPG etc? how many MPG do you get on average out of a 1.4 Mera and how many would you get out of the GTi?

Mick

Asks Rick according to him its no more expensive on petrol apparently

Me & Dodds both drove up the same distance in scotland

Me in the SI , him in a GTi.

Both goin same speed through twistys , about average of 70-90. He used less petrol than I did...

reason being , the GTi is designed to be drove fast as its a sports car so 70 - 90 isnt a struggle. keeping up to GTi speed in the SI through twistys burns fuel lol so all in all it depends if you hammer ur 1.4 or not

I really wish people would stop saying things in posts in which they clearly don't understand.

There is no maximum to what any engine can achieve, it's just a case of how big your wallet is...

The SR20 is capable of making at least 800 HP...this has been done numerous times in the S14 200sx...albeit a shit load of money thrown at it.

If you want big power, forget NA unless you want a deafening engine, that's a pain in the arse to drive. Also, to get over say 200 HP, you better get saving, because it gets expensive. Unfortuanely the cylinder head design isn't as good as it should be, especially in comparison to the Honda B' series engines.

If you have a budget of say £1000...then get the usuals....manifold, filter (housed), exhuast, ECU...etc.

If you can stretch to £3000, then get nitrous. The stock internal will easily take a straight shot of 100 HP!

If you can stretch to £5000...then go turbo. This should be more than enough to either buy a GTiR swap or a very successful turbo conversion. There are many turbo kits available from example...Hotshot, JGY, JWT, Powertech, FMAX...etc.

And don't worry about engine strength...the SR20DE is a strong mofo, and is easily capable of taking 500 crank HP in stock internals.

Cheers

Dave

P.S. You may get gearbox issues above 300 HP...just like the GTiR!!!

And i don't agree with you on this.. there is a physical limit to everything.
There's something called the laws of physics acting upon our world, and even car engines are included in that.

i've never seen a 2000hp SR20DE.. have you? i think not, because it is physically impossible.

a friend of mine has a S14a running 546hp in his SR20DET.. but we were talking SR20DE.. not the turbo version, and turboconverting a NA engine would make it a turbo engine, which is not the same.

I think he was talking realisticly mate... ie with any amount of money you can get a very high BHP result which is true.

obviously its not going to make 2000BHP as thats just a ridicoulous number

Dam thats terrible for a 1.4. When I used to have one I could get 350 miles out of a full tank!
