newbie with import almera

Hello all just bought a little almera GTi.

Its a 96 Jap import which was imported in 2001.

Only a 1.8 i thought all gti were 2.0 but obviously not and it also has pulsar marking on rear, but im happy with it, totally standard and has a double din cd/radio/tuner thing that i quite like

anyways il get pics up soon, much better car than last car i had
 
welcome, yeah the Jap GTi's have SR18DE engines instead of out SR20's, they're not that much down on power compared to the 2.0 if i remember.
 
i dont know if it was on ebay, i just picked it up on sunday night as a cheap runaround as i sold my 306 S16

thats good to hear, that will be my first mod then as lights on it looking old and aged!

not very many n ebay that i noticed though, these difficult to come across??
 
Did ya pick it up from Kilmarnock? if so it's probly the one on Ebay! I was ready to buy it but couldn't get insured with my insurance company so i had to back out :(
 
UBZ 9064 was the plate of that one I was going to buy

after a lot of hassle trying to explain to the insurance group what it was (looked like an almera, was registered as a sunny, and said pulsar on the back - all of which i could explain, none of which did they listen to) I gave up:( they are great though, I'd have one over a 2.0 GTi!
 
why are they better than the 2.0??

got quite a lot for what it is, all electrics, folding mirrors, a/c climate control, double din sony headunit, good solid engine, sounds good! no faults at all mechanically

just a little grubby, few little scratches here and there but im onto that to get it sorted, gave it a clean and looks really well once i did
 
Not necessarily 'better' but the insurance will be lower for a similar SR series engine (And thats the last of it - no more talk of insurance) plus with it being an import, rust is unlikely to have set in (Make sure you underseal those arches, sills, underbody etc and it will last for years to come)
 
think they make similar power to the gti but from a 1.8 16v engine. theyre also the base car that autech used when they produced the autech pulsar. not entirely sure on this but they might have an LSD as well. you'll have got quite alot for your money

It was on Ebay from a guy in Killie, I had seen it a few months before up here.

I bet its green ;)
