Noob with lots of questions

The chassis seems fairly similar in design. i.e. rear torsion beam suspesion and front macpherson strut, and they look similar too. The rear struts are the same (if not different top mounts) and the fronts I believe can be used if you change the top mounts, but suspension options are available for both so there's no need going down that route. For the N16 you can get various brands of lowering spring and you can get uprated KYB dampers, then up from that adustable Koni dampers, and then up from that are coilovers made by K-Sport, KW, and BC Racing. (FYI the rear suspension parts on the n16 come straight from a P11 Primera).

The diesel has real world quickness and feels fast but it's extra weight means it's not as quick as the N15 GTi, certainly not on a drag stip I've found . Standard they are still a lot of fun and as times goes on more tuning options are coming available for the DCi. As Johnny says, check out my members ride thread (click my signature image)for tuning options if you'd like to know more :). If you want instant out of the box performance then the N15 GTi is the one to go for. If however you like a bit of modding and have your heart set on the N16 then you'll do well with the diesel imo as it has loads of potential ;).

Relatively Joe the N15 GTi is not well equiped. The SXE N16 has shit loads of features :).

I totally agree.. The car's YEARS newer isn't it...
But for the age of the N15 its amazingly equipped and dosen't seem at all 'old fashioned'
Joe

Welcome Bobby.

I have a GT and it does'nt feel big at all, it handles great.

My advice would be to try an Almera GTi, you will not regret it.

Drop by the Northern meet on November 1st for inspiration (check the thread)

ye that would be really good actually, got another meet this weekend with the ZR lot, I willl have a look when the meet is on.

I would have expected electric windows and leather bits from a top of the range car in the late 90's though. I would have also expected cup holders! :lol. Now... Stu's pulsar... THAT''S well equiped ;). The UK should so have had those features with it. Would have done so much better.

cheers man, :)
yeah have to admit it, my car is well equipped! 3 disc cd changer in the dash, green foot well lights a nissan std item not forgetting the VLSD!
things like these should have been put on the uk models, if so the almera N15 would have been top of the table in the uk, being a well equiped hot hatch, :)
also 10 yeats later after its production people would still be looking at it thinking ah yeah almeras are well nice, instead we get "ah nice taxi..."
BUT would we all be here now modding and driving is understated cars?
now cause everyone would have one

I have had a look online and it seems parts are available and I always find these type of forums great for getting more bits.
As for modding, I am always tinkering away with things, but am held back when it comes to actual engine work. I know basic things, and how to do them like changing brakes, servicing, etc. so am not worried, actually changing my springs tomorrow to Gmax ones which as someone haas already pointed out are suppose to be really harsh but thats what I like.
Its frustrating as I really like the n16, and yours looks great. I have spotted a n15 gti online which needs some TLC for £400 but I dont have a garage atm so cant work on it.

Bit bored of current car and soon I can pretty much insure any car as I turn 21 which means I can finally have something fast.

I will have to drive a gti, just to see what its like, I heard performance and handling are amazing, but need to see how quiet it is and what it feels like inside.

If you drive the GTi you'll love it, but a well modded N16 can easily equal your enjoyment and some ;). I reckon you'd be very happy with either choice mate :).

Stu, don't forget your cupholders, climate control and the fact the interior lights dim too! Almost as many features as my N16 your Pulsar :D

If I was to find a 2.2 Dci in my price range than the standard performance would be enough for me, if not then a gti would be my ideal choice.

Love the custom bonnet on your car, looks really nice, open mouth grill :)

I wouldnt say that either would be enough for you in standard form without trying them out first dude!

Completely different cars IMO.

I understand what you mean, i realise they are totally diffferent, just meant from their performance figures I would consider trying both out

But as stated I have driven diesels before and not a fan of the way diesels work, then again dunno about the dci in an almera but in the other cars I have seen diesels are easier to mod if you want greater performance

Ah right, yeah thats definitely the best way to go. I'm sure a few of the lads wouldnt mind taking you for a spin if you came to the northern meet, a lot of them only have simple bolt ons with no major 'fettling' :)

Shame there wont be a DCi there to defend!

Cheers mate, the bumper is custom and the bonnet is an imported N16 sedan bonnet :).

all all else fails mate it is possible to put the gti engine in the n16, although it will be a lot of work and money it can be done. there is a thread on here to tell you how to do it.

oh and welcome to the aoc

thak you mate, there was someone who said this before to me. Would I be right in thinking that the gti primera and almera had the same engine?

Some did.
N15 GTi and P11 GT have the same engine. All the others are different in some way or another, some are the same type of engine but differ on minor points etc.

N15 and N16 are the chassis codes so they are very different and parts are not interchangable.

Yes, I'm on coilovers. Easiest way to get a big drop and the handling is awesome. As far as the N16 goes 35mm is the biggest drop you can do on standard shocks with aftermarket springs. I had an Eibach Pro spring kit on my 1.5 N16 and it made a great difference to handling but not a huge drop (35mm). I think the Eibach Sport kit is a 45/50mm drop but you need uprated/shortened shocks. It can be done but I think due to the lack of shortened aftermarket shocks you need an insert for the standard ones. Not done it myself but it's not supposed to be that hard and there is bound to be someone here who could advise you. I suspect N15s may have more shock options.

As far as I know there is no difference between the N16 Sport version and the others other than trim options.

If you look at my original member's rides thread (click my sig then follow the link to my old car in the first post) you'll see the drop from Eibach Pro kit on page 4.
