Oil change vs Service...

from what you've described its definately warped discs, so you need to find and fix the cause then replace the discs AND pads.

i had to do mine recently and what a mess the disc was in.

i'm gonna hazard a guess and say you sit with your foot on the brake in slow traffic/at lights?

I'd never use Arnold Clark to service my car if I was actually paying for it. Bunch of overpriced cowboys.

Replace warped disks now before they screw your caliper. Disks and pads are relatively cheap in comparison to calipers.

Yup, based on experience with my Fiat at Arnold Clark I'd have to agree.

I've had the car for 4 days. :-)

Got it serviced at Arnold Clark today - needs a couple of tires, pads all round and rear discs.

No other problems and I'm gonna shop around for quotes since AC want £400.

Do the pads and discs yourself, it's really simple to do. If you don't trust yourself, buy the parts online (Brakes4u is good) and get a good local mechanic to fit. Just one on the calipers that someone has already mentioned. The rear calipers are very prone to sticking, so after a long run, feel the alloy on each side. They should be cool, as the rear brakes do very little work. If one or both feel hot, then the caliper may be sticking. If this is the case, get a mechanic to give them a good clean up and relube the slider pins. Excessive constant heat destroys calipers. I left mine for too long in this state and ended up paying £350 for both rear calipers.

These work. Changing the the discs and pads isn't a hard job, just a bit time consuming if you've never done it before. The Haynes manual should talk you through it.

^ Looks a v good deal. I paid around £170 for new discs and Greenstuff pads from www.buypartsby.co.uk, but admittedly this was for GTi. And it is really simple to fit - seems they don't even bother screwing discs onto hub these days so you don't even have to worry about drilling out and checking alignment etc - is literally lift off and lift on (after you've degreased).
Only thing to watch out for is that you don't knock ABS cable, if you have one, out of housing - I suspect I did and that's why I had to replace it 6 weeks later after it rubbed through on suspension lol...
Oh yeah, and I did also discover a seized piston once I started, which led to spending another £100 or more on replacements and seals all round, as well as a lot of aggro getting the stuck one out and fitting the boots. But you may be lucky...

I can buy the parts from a local motor factors for £97 so I think I'm going to find a decent local mechanic to do it for me. :)
