Power problem in 4th gear, advice please!

You also dont have 1 cam working and then a 2nd coming on to work at the same time, that implies there are valves sitting redundant until the 2nd "comes on", a design which I doubt would have ever existed

ahh ok cheers... i dont know an awful lot about engine hence why i believe this. Is that the same for all twin cams or just Nissan?? The main reason for this seeming viable on the N14 was because as you accelarted hard the engine made a whirring noise.

Same for all of them, UNLESS like I said, they have a version of variable valve timing (Such as vtec), but even then it varies on make etc.

Whirring noise was most likely the gearbox dude, my 1.6s have all whined a lot.

ahh ok then cheers for the enlightment. the n14 made lots of noises, most of them bad as parts were breaking... its now retired to the drive waiting for an engine swap and to made into something different...

i will be sure to tell the boss his ideas of his mr2 are wrong... maybe the gto too :p

He may not be totally wrong, if the GTO has MIVEC and the MR2 has VVTi then it is like honda's v-tec or nissan's VVL, economy low down, then power high up in the revs. Cams 'switch' and different valves etc are used to do this.

ahh ok the animated diagram actually helped (feel like im back at school lol)... i really should try and learn something about engines...
