RB20DET Transplant Help?

At the end of the day, nobody in their right mind is going to convert Almera to RWD.

well i have a rb20det in my garage from my old skyline, and without making the front of the car slighty longer it wont fit, lol, and i can tell from working on the maragoni toyota yaris a rwd conversion is stupid money, mainy all the custom fabrication, but as said it would be a awsome car if some took the time to build one

Someone has built a RWD Yaris

yep we/ century motorsport, redone all the chasis mods needed for safe handling, and tuned the enginge to around 500bhp, i think the fastest we got up the strip was 12.6 on road tyres, we also built the fastest toyota mr2 on the planet runing 1000bhp and 9 second 1/4 mile times. :)

iv seen the MR2 thats awsome and the enginering in the yaris was good but the bodykit an Wheels ect were horrible!

Why the fudge convert it, there are 4wd Almeras out there import and SR20DET it from a GTIR surely would be win?

Heck theres even one for sale for £800

Because as far as I am aware, all the import 4x4's are 5 door and the 4WD running gear from the GTiR is absolutely shite.

I'm not slagging off 5 doors bud...I love your car and the fact that you pretty much muffed every other car on here par a few.

Holy thread resurection an all that Batman.
I googled my questions from another thread and it brought me here :)

I hate torque steer,is good enough reason for me,oh and donor bits are cheap,MX 5 diff n driveshafts/subframe,a bit of tunnel fab and a five speed gearbox /flywheel / prop job done.
Would be loads of work, but pretty much a one off = hence interesting and probably lots of fun too ;)

What RWD gearboxes have folks used for the SR20 mill? any ideas for reference please :)

The FWD SR20DE has a different gearbox bolt pattern to the RWD engine. There area couple of approaches to consider with this:
- Go for a RWD SR20DE(T or not) and try and mount that in the engine bay, use the original gearbox and driveshaft(shortened of coarse)and plumb it into a rear end of your choice

- Go for a FWD SR20DE(T or not) and fit a Pulsar Gti-R gearbox and transfer box, driveshaft (shouldn't need altering) and run a Gti-R rear subframe. The rear ends of the N14 and N15 are really similar, if not the same, so it wouldn't be too much fabrication work to get it bolted up. You can then adapt the transfer box to run permanent RWD instead of 4WD.

Now the RWD route has a lot of costs involves nowadays with the drift tax epidemic but would make the closest thing to a traditional RWD setup. The Gti-R route is cheapest and less involved (probably) but parts are a bit harder to source.
