rocker cover

hey just wondering what is the best way to polish up the rocker cover.

Also how well will it actually polish up? if any one got a pic of one they have done that would be great.

Any info appreciated

BODGER :D

Tried to polish my cover with little success. Needed too much work to prep it properly before i would of been happy with the finish. I would reccommend rubbing down with a coarse wet and dry paper, high temperature spray paint (2/3 coats) then an off the shelf body colour of your choosing (or your cars body colour). should look like this.

It needs to be done professionally to get a mirror finish......you dont even need high temp paint....rub down, degrease, 1 very light coat of normal spray paint.....leave this a good few hours, this will act as an undercoat.....then about 3 coats ontop of that with 10-15 mins drying time between coats.....mine was done like this about 18 months ago and still looks very good.....

I've just done a rocker cover i bought from the scrappy in Metallic Pealescent Blue

That was rubbed down with wire brush drill thing, and sandpapered too, then degreased, 3 coats of Acid Etch Primer, 4 coats of Blue Metallic Paint, and about 4 coats of laquer (all spray painted) Then gave it a good T cut down after, and polished!

Will try to get some pictures up later!
However...i'm really not sure on a complete polished finish! Try one of the experts on here!

cheers for the info guys but i didnt mean to spray it but to actually POLISH it up if it will lol.

Will it polish up do ya think? :D

would of thought that if you started with a coarse wet and dry to get down to a bare metal finish and then moved down to a medium grade wet and dry to remove any scratches that the coarse grade has added and maybe a finish with a fine wet and dry to get a smooth finish. could maybe try some sort of metal cleaner to get a shiny polished finish but im not sure.

I got my rocker cover done at a place at barnsley. They did a good job bout £30 just keepin it clean is a twat!
If sum 1 can tell me how to attach a picture to this post Il show you.

Polishing it up to mirror finnish shouldnt be very hard, As long as you take the time to do it properly, working through the grades of wet and dry and then using correct wheels/polish to bring it up.

I use a dremmel with sanding/ polishing bits and Meguires metal polish.

Then a few hours spent doing it working in the shine.
It may not be hard to do but it will take a decent amount of going at to get a mirror finish.
Worth the effort though right :D

i started to clean mine up a whilte back with some metal polish and some scotchbright.
i was going to take my rocker cover off and have a better go at it this week end. it the gasket rubber or cork?

here`s mine when it was fresh from the polishing shop.
cost was £45, and it`s a real pig to keep clean, sadly mine doesn`t look quite like this now.
