Servicing my N16 1.5 e

so am i the only one with a greedy engine then?

Jus read in manual

Avoid full throttle driving and abrupt acceleration......ooooops, i wonder how many of the 103000 miles have been at full throttle :D
lol may be different on ph1 and ph2 engines as they come with different bhp for a start and they also use different spak plugs.

@ liam

yup, this is my first car :)

paying £1495 TPFT insurance, paid nothing for the car as it was passed down from my brother when he bought his shiny new A4

the reason I end up over-revving this damn thing is because if I'm at a junction or something, it takes it aaages to move off and into the roundabout/junction and off to where I want to be, so i find i'm either allowing a large gap for me to pull into, or driving it totally in first around the corner. this is very very bad i know!

saying that, I learnt in a diesel car, and LOVED it! this whole 'clutch control' thing that petrol car's have going on is just nonsense! this is the reason I want to buy a diesel almera soonish!

also, i dont think i've ever full-throttled it except a few times on my 'closed personal track' to see what this 'top speed of 107mph' actually felt like! otherwise some usually gentle acceleration is the order of the day, biggest issue with my driving however is jumping off the clutch too quickly and not easing it up. i put that down to impatience!

awesome, youll soon get to love it, and the little problem will become obsolete.

And thats not bad, considering ive been driving two years and mines £189 per month TPFT!!!

I wouldnt worry about the clutch control and pullin away from junctions, it'll come in time matey. But now your in the club, you'll never be able to leave.....they cant hear you scream when your at the mercy of alc.....:)

doesnt explain why my ph1 manual tells me it only takes 2.7 when it doesnt....

just checked my manuals and it says that it takes 2.7lt on the phase 1 and the phase 2 QG15 and QG18's.

just noticed your in bham another owner near me and another N16 :-)

oh yeah try putting your parents names on your policy it will be cheaper :-) (if the policy is in your name)

very strange indeed!

And darren, mother cant drive, and it didnt make any difference with the oldman on there. Cant wait to get shot of admiral! Theyre a pain in the ass!

Okay, let's sort a few things out here.
First of all, it is a 60 litre tank - I put 55 litres in mine the other day & the low fuel light had only just come on.
Secondly, a K&N panel filter will last for thousands of miles before needing any attention. Put it in & forget about it 'til the next service, then visually inspect it for any dirt/blockage. You'll probably find very little.

Engine oil capacity with filter in place is 2.8 litres - straight from workshop manual. This is an approx figure though, as it depends how warm & what state the old oil coming out of the engine is in. If the old oil is very dirty/black, I would always recommend an engine flush to get rid of more contaminents. Your new oil will stay fresh for much longer !
Semi-synthetic oil is more than adequate for a standard 1.5 or 1.8 Almera engine. As I've said before, fully synth is a complete waste of money unless you've tuned it or race it on track days.

As for taking ages to pull away in a petrol car vs a diesel, it sounds like you just need more practice.

Just some extra confirmation about some of the things others have said..

Acceleration over 1.5 was poor after 60 mph and painfully slow if there was a headwind or slope so that's normal. Up to 70mph keeping the revs between 3.5 and 5k while accelerating through the gears makes a big difference (but drinks petrol).

K&N Panel filter will improve air flow, as will removing the resonator. Any filter will get clogged with dust eventually which is why the standard ones are replaced at service. The only difference there with a K&N is you can clean it instead of replacing it. Although it's probably better at filtering dust is has much better airflow so take longer to get blocked. I clean mine every 6 months/10,000 miles but that's probably twice as often as really needed.

Hi,

well, on my policy I am the policy holder and I've got my brother, sister and dad on the policy! saying that, I am with Quinn Direct, so I can drive ANY car that is roadworthy apart from anything commercially owned like my dads company car

in terms of the panel filter and stuff, going to go and buy one of those today then I think along with 4 litres of semi-synthetic 10w/40

many thanks for all your help guys/gals

thats what my mates on he had a micra and has a Skyline GTST. his mum has insured the Skyline and he has insured the micra

dont worry about what manuals say for how much oil, just put it in till its at the right level on the dipstick just dont go silly,

and darren your mates seem to have done everything/been everywhere/know everyone/have everything....

had the service done today, air filter, oil filter, spark plugs and oil

bought a 5 litre gallon, i think theres about 2 and something litres left, so the figure of 2.8 sounds about right

car feels a little more responsive right now, and i checked the receipts for the last service and turns out it was done LAST april by west way nissan at 117000 miles, mechanic was shocked that i hadnt come in before!

and now i move onto the subject of fuel additives!

are these worth it? if only to clean out the lines properly, considering the car's done 130,000 miles of inner city driving and hasnt exactly stuck to fuel from one petrol station (bp/shell/asda/morrisons/tesco/jet)

many thanks for all the helpful advice and pointers!

2.8 litres is weak! Most new cars have 4-5 to extend service intivals. I'd want to service my N16 every 5k miles to be safe.

well the 2.8 litres or so that went in were a lovely yellowy-brown colour

the oil that came out however....a nice blackish gloop. lol. needless to say it needed changing!

throttle response is much better now tho, tested it out on the way back home from work today, not too shabby.

any advice on cleaning the fuel lines?
