Some annoying things on my Almera

I don't know if its just my car or most Almera's but here are three things that are really starting to annoy me:

1. When the cars low on petrol the light doesn't come on and stay on, it keeps coming on and off so when I'm in traffic I'm not sure whether to divert and find the nearest petrol station or just wait to get to one nearer to home.

2. The petrol needle doesn't seem reliable. When I'm driving even on flat roads sometimes the car magically thinks its gained petrol and the needle moves up, then maybe 10mins later it thinks its a hummer and the needle goes down again. Its kinda hard working out how much petrol Ive got in the car. If i switch the car off and start it up again the needle is also in a different position to before.

3. After driving about 20mins the windows start steaming up. The heater doesn't help so i have to put the AC on which i don't like because the car doesn't drive as smooth. I found that opening a window helps but not when it rains or its freezing outside. Is there any chemical or cleaner i can put on my windows to stop them steaming up??

oh the memories, well the fuel gauge is linked to the ecu i think because it shows how much fuel you have depending on your mpg/how hard your driving, if your giving it some it will drop to the red and the fuel light will come one because the car thinks if you carry on driving like that with low mpg the fuel wont last long, if you get on the motorway for example cruising along at 70, mpg is much better and so its like having more fuel. Its an estimate.

Tell me if im talking rubbish people but thats what i found in mine.

As for the windows steaming up i bet you have the recirculating air button pushed in dont you, this used to annoy me in my car, turned the button to off and magically the windows stopped steaming up!

Mine is the same mate, both the gauge and the window thing.

Solutions....
Just fill the car up as soon as the fuel light comes on, then you wont get paranoid about running out of juice. :thumb:
As slick rick says, you prob have the recirculated air button on, just turn it off and all should be clear

whoops i meant "as cov racer says"

Yep, swich off the internal air circulation setting and the car heats up twice as fast. My sri fuel gauge also does the same thing, think it has a sensitive in-tank sender.

iii my fuel used to annoy me but i always knew id get around 60m on 10litres so i knew how much i had left, harsh driving and itd soon go down from a qaurter straight to red yet park it up turn the car on and its between a quarter to empty. i found it was accurate from half above, found with 20 litres the gti would be half full and take ages to drop to a qarter then itd fly down lol but the gti is no more i would do anything to have them lil problems back :P

if your windows steam up even after you've turned the re-circulating air button off, buy a new pollen filter.

handy tip there kelv, never thought of that.

petrol gauge on my almera was od and im sure it is teh same on all, put a fiver in and youve got a quarter of a tank... apparently. like 1/4 to 3/4 on th gauge was 30 quid!

Just the thread i was about to put up. my fuel guage is total crap jumps up and down everytime. recently the guage was on the red below i got to the petrol station bought £20(approx 22Ltr fuel and my guage jumped over half the tank, making it look like full tank of a mera is only 40Litres. almera fuel guages are not reliable simple!!!!

A simple fool proof solution:

next time you get fuel, just fill the tank to the brim... then every time it falls to half, fill her up again! Magic: No more 'low fuel' lights. guaranteed to work.... :D

That'll be five quid please...... :P

Good tip!

I usually fill it up as far as it will go (£30 in the nx, bless its little heart)

then reset the odometer, after afew tanks i worked out how many miles it could do before the light came on, and thus how many miles i had left before i needed to fill up (usually get 280 miles from a tank)

Window thing doesn't happen to me very often, only happened bit more in the cold weather.

Petrol thing pisses me off to the highest order, i've noticed when petrol gauge is at the top the needle hardly moves, then goes a little bit faster when hit the 3/4 mark then from there to under the half talk mark it drops fast as hell and hardly get any miles to it. Then when hits the 1/4 mark to empty tank mark it hovers there for ages! I don't do very motorway miles during the week so going to work and back i'll get 250miles to a tank, when doing serious motorway miles I get 350ish miles to a tank! Thats only a 1.4 Si and hardly high reving it either!

Hope that makes sense :)

Might be the shape of the tank?

My mates fiat bravo tank is really wide at the top but goes narrower at the bottom and means the petrol guage drops alot more quickly once its got past half way.

The thing that gets me is, the needle is now on the red line, but the light isn`t on, but yesterday, sitting ticking over on the drive, it was between 1/4 & empty & the light started flickiering!

Not noticed the misting up yet.

You shouldn't for a while Fred, i changed the pollen filter at 100k

thats what i've always thought, its makes sense to make sure the tank get's drained properly, cone shaped-ish?
