Spray Painting with Kompressor

i wouldnt even touch bodywork myself, have even got 1/2 litre of paint in the exact colour match for the classic (the bodyshop gave it us after they did the spraying as its now illegal paint or something like that) but i wouldnt dare touch it myself as for the price a proffesional charges i dont see the point, il happily get my hands dirty on any part of the car but bodywork is something i wouldnt bother with, stone chips and cleaning etc are as far as it goes.

the bodyshop we use are reasonably priced and have all the proper equipment, even though we have probably spent £600 or so there over the last 12-18 months over 3 cars theres no way i could buy the equipment and gain the skills needed for that much money so to me its good value. im fairly competant painting little areas like bits under the bonnet etc and i normally get a good enough finish but i wouldnt touch any area were colour match was important, get it slightly out and it will stand out a mile and look stupid and im 99% certain you wont get a good match. you pay a proffesional because they know exactly what there doing and have normally been doing it for years and years which is whats needed, reading up on it is only half the issue, its the actual technique thats much harder than it sounds.

I would only touch parts of the car that can be replaced. I would not touch big panels like wings and rear quarter panels this is because you need to mask the windows 100%. I seen work done by pro's that are crap to be honest like spots of paint on the window after spraying.

thats what I thorght /\ I take his word for it
the only paint I will buy from halfords is primer nothing else. my mate brought some paint for his Corsa and he put it on his car and the paint color is slightly off colour so he had to go back to Vauxhall to get it and then it was spot on

yeah, i've learned my lesson, this was the first time i've tried the halfords stuff and its balls.

quality of the paint is good but its just the color match. if your spraying a PS2 like me it does not matter lol

if you get it mixed its off a holts program iirc which will be similar to what other places use, its just down to getting it mixed right, stand over their shoulder and make sure they get the measurements right and it should be spot on ;)

Anynone who doesnt bake a newly painted surface with an oven is not giving a good service. Allowing pain to dry naturally will leave it prone to premature aging and a bad colour match. Baking the paint allows it to dry and set evenly, you wouldnt bake a cake under a lightbulb would you?

A lot of places like avon custom (renown for good paint) prefer not to use an oven. Gives the paint time to properly settle and can provide a really really good finish.

All an oven does is speed up the drying time, nothing else. I did my skirts with cans and no lacquer and the finish was fine and still is. Small areas dont require lacquer and it only cracks or peels off plastic anyway.

bang on the head. I painted and fitted the bodykit to the sol and it was a usual piss poor fit till lots of time spent with it, never done anything like before really, its just all common sense.
The kit has a few parts where the paint is a bit light as I run out of colour and thought I'd get away with it, in a sense I have as no one notices but me. Its a damn sight better of a job than some cunt jobs Ive seen thats been 'proffessional' aswell.

If it goes wrong you can always rub down and try again, if not you can give up and go to the body shop

/\ thats what I thorght. it can't be that hard spraying, nothings hard if you know how to. in this case, it just take time :)

there is this body shop that I don't trust at all. he Sprayed a Honda Civic 1.6 03 plate with a full Type-R kit. The job was poor, loads of paint dribble on the bottom of the bumper and I seen the guy who owned the car and its the spray shop owners cousin. so if he can not spray a relatives car "professionally" how the hell is he going to spray mine
