TEIN Rear Top Mounts

hey guys,
finally decided to try and sort out the knocking coming from the back of the car and have diagnosed it as a knackered Top Mount.
I emailed TEIN UK and got a very fast response from their sales team (highly recommended!)
basically.. the cost of getting them refurbished would be 36 pounds (excluding VAT, shipping etc etc) per mount.
The other option is to purchase new top mounts which they quoted at 120 for the pair and 40 for express shipping from Japland..
the part number he gave me was PRN27-31S90 but says its for the B14!?
http://hpautoworks.chainreactionweb.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1029
is this the right part?

what you guys think i should do?! i mean, shipping them over means being without the car for a long while(i need the car for work and college) or else dish out more and get the mounts, which i dont even know if they'll fit or not?!

any comments suggestions appreicated!

thanks

I dunno if TEIN do this, but you could ask, anyway - Brakes International do an exchange basis where you ring up and order some (for example) GTi calipers, and pay an ectra £20 surcharge, then once you get them at your door you post your old calipers back to them and once they get them you get your surcharge back.

It's tantamount to getting them reconditioned but you dont need to lose your car in the meantime. worth an ask?

yeah good idea keelv, however, he was saying aswell that if i wanted to buy the new top mounts, i'd have to go through a dealer..
i dont want to go through a dealer because you know yourselves they'll try to bump up the cost as much as they can, i emailed them asking if they'd sell direct and am awaiting a reply..
another q is, would the suspension from ANY other almera fit the vzr? might just try and get a set out of a 1.4 from the scrappy and stick it on for the meantime if the exchange kelv mentioned doesnt work

Another complete set of rear suspension is gonna set you back alot more in the long run plus getting someone to swap over a full set of suspension twice!

Buy the new ones. I'm sure you'l get a refund if they're wrong.

Couture d'Automotive in Dunboyne are Tein dealers so give them a shout about top mounts. Got my mates SiR CR-X suspension from Japan. Good lads they are!

Eh is it just me or are they not front mounts,i know it says rear, but they look like fronts! Im fairly sure i still have my standard rear mounts but i doubt if they will fit! If they do you can have em! I think when i got my teins just the fronts were pillowballs, anyway you could just remove the shock, remove the top mount and have a look, you might not even have to remove it! I have some small pics of the tein mount,il get em up asap!

i googled the part number and thats what came up. but they are for the b14 sentra which is kinda worrying me.

if only your fronts were pillowballs, what did you have on the back?

just checked the japanese TEIN website..
the part number is correct for the VZR scroll down and you'll see it :D

EDIT: ok, been doing some more research and have found this aswell...

http://www.jaydm.com/tein/typeha.htm

basically it says that
All dampers fit directly into the original upper mount. However, TIEN offers as an upgrade, an upper mount kit which replaces the rubber bushing with a pillow ball (spherical bearing).

if this is the case, does that mean, that i can use the ones from the standard cars? i.e. lucinos offer of the standard rear mounts?????

don't know if it is any help but i bought a new top mount (just one) for my p1 gti from nissan and it cost about £40. I couldn't get one at a breakers as they would only sell me the shocker and mount together for £45.

why would the rear need a pillow ball? isnt that for camber adjustment? the rear suspension on the n15/b14 chassis has no camber adjustment, and doesnt need it(?).
you could use the rear top mounts from any N15, even a 1.4

you could always source the motivational engineering B14 rear mounts from the US..

I have them on a set of TEINs that a previous owner fitted. It allows for more travel so you can ride a little lower, more comfortably.

Here's a writeup on it..

thanks for the info guys, just wondering, so is it possible to replace the top mount with a standard Nissan top mount? this would be alot easier for me i suppose..

I bet the pic will be a generic one and not specific to the part.
I assume the rear one will be pillow ball only, without the camber adjustment. Pillow ball, just means it has a spherical bearing in the centre instead of rubber, it just removes a little bit of softness and gives the suspension a more direct connection to the body.

think thats exactly what it is.. its only the pillow ball without the camber, there is definitely not a camber adjustment on it at the rear.
They have it advertised on the Tein websites that these come as an optional extra, other wise you can use the standard top mounts.. would you guys say its worth taking the risk and trying the standard ones?

Ok well the first link you put up showing the mounts look like the right ones, the round ones of course are all you would need!
Im fairly sure you can only get type flex for the vz-r,theres a sticker on the shock saying which ones they are!

when i was cleaning them, i was almost sure i saw type HA but i cant find a listing of HA for the jn15!?!
maybe try your original mounts?!??

Only thing is im wondering, the tein spring looks smaller in diameter,so will the seat of the original mount be too large???

they look like theres a good chance it'll defo fit! lucino.. i'll take them mounts off you man!! i'll at least try them i think and hope for the best.. what you think?

Hi William

If your damper is HA / HR it is possible to use standard uppermounts as replacements. Our pillow ball top mount design is based on OEM.

Many thanks

good news! :D i'm almost 99% sure i've type HA's hopefully the normal top mounts will fit!

There should be "Type HA" on the side of the strut body along with the other details.

HA's are no longer produced for the N15 so you will struggle to find them listed anywhere.. They have been replaced with Type Flex and Type SS I believe.

you are right.. i could find them only on a few sites but they're not listed on tein site at all!

i have standard top mounts now (thanks lucino VZR 1) so will try them and see if they'll fit.. tein said they should..
