lol all except my dads old(p-reg) 420 gsi, that did 30,000 miles in 2 years and didnt break down once! suppose he's the luckiest man alive, what with having a son like me and a rover that didnt break.

So what evidence are you going on to say Rovers are shite...? or are you jst believing all the media that say they're unreliable and shit.....Cause judging by your experience Rovers aren't all that bad :p

My mate had a 416 gti (Honda SOHC one) and even that went through three engines and five head gaskets before he gave up.

Well being a honda engine surely thats hondas fault - not rover :p

and as for 5 head gaskets, he must have been sending it to a shite mechanic for it needing 5 new gaskets....or he never sorted the original problem that was causing the car to over heat.

And the end of the day, if you keep a Rover within its service intervals its just as reliable as any other car. The problems come when you get people who service them incorectly or don;t look after them.

everyone ive ever met with an older generation rover >96 has had head gasket faliure (right through the range 200 400 600 800). that means they are poo. honda only supplied the block and a few other bits maybe one or two chassis when they were in partnership i beleive. i'm sure some one will correct me! lol

they over heat because the cooling system is pants!! and the rad gets clogged up a treat

oh yea welcome!!!!

ive got some evidence. ive been driving a rover 25, 03 plate for a week. its a courtesy car. its not just shite. its f**king shite. the interior just feels so cheap. the best bit on the car is the electric sunroof. who puts in electric sunroofs and wind down windows?? i can honestly see why rover went out of business. i also have 2 mates with the mg. one has the 160 brake and the other has the 1.4. both cars have been into the garage twice each with engine problems. THEY ARE BOLLOX. i feel sorry for everyone that owns a rover. anyway my car is back tomorow so i can say goodbye to the shitbox.

Feel sorry for me then :P

Oh and the MG doesn't have 180bhp, it has 160, hence the name ZR160...

I drove and was looking to buy an MGZS180, it was sublime. I'd also have a ZT260 in a shot.
I had a 214Si though, and although it was quite fast, (and had an interior that whilst cheap and plasticy, was far nicer than my GTI's) did the head gasket thing. You can say that within certain parameters it'll be ok, but a modern car shouldn't NEED that much pampering to work OK, it should be able to take some scuff.
