The price of our cars

My car is referd to as a shiiter but i scared a 53 Reg Honda Civic Type-R he could not get past me on a 60mph road and no on coming traffic. Also a Polo GTi even hough that was pretty quick he couldnt get passed me and i was 3 up on him.

I wanted to sell my car andget something else but i cant bare taking like £900 for it id rather scrap it than sell it. But think i will just run it into the ground keep it untill it finally goes. id like something new but what car could i buy for the same money would be better?

I was thinking of getting a P2 not red though but who knows what problesm i'll have with that who knows hahaha. I like my car and for a 10 year old grandad wagon it still can keep up with brand new cars. One lad in a fiesta ST beat me the other day, we stopped at lights and said ha ha your cars slow. I said my car cost £2000 3 years ago and i was kissing your bumper your Fiesta aint £11 grand quicker than mine. the GTi is good to buy but rubbish to sell.

Agreed.

I haven't read lax power or the like for ages, but I remember when I last did the above^^ was all that was needed to get your car featured. If was as if a simple formula could be followed to get your car featured:

Tiny engine + hideous bodykit + stupidly big wheels = mag feature

Crap cars, quite often driven by knobheads.

Nowadays though, with stuff like old import Impreza WRX's going so cheaply its hardly surprising to see people moving on to stuff like that.

See that's part of the problem, the people with the same mentality can now almost feasibly afford to buy and run 280bhp worth of WRX as well, and make the same hash of it as they did a Corsa or whatever. It's pretty lucky that the Almera has not fallen victim too (on here at least)...

Well a few different views here. I'm no idiot, i no the cars are old and that and really arent worth much anymore but i'm just trying to say that as a club full of Almera's i think we can have a slight influence on the value of our cars and am just saying that it would be an idea if we didnt give our cars away. Ok i apreciate it cant be helped as sometimes you just need to get rid as quickly as possible but as a rule we are going to help each other out by holding up the value of our cars.

I'm not lookikng to make any money on my car and did not buy it as an investment- i actually bought it with the mind mind of using it for three years and then just garaging it until its a classic. Its just a bit annoying when you get into money probs as i have latly- you have no choice but to sell your car and then find you may as well sell it for scrap value!

Ok, not flaming you but I need to defend some of them comments.

What is the UK modifying scene? I'd class it as flip paint 1.0L Saxo's with a 'Xtreme' bodykit and chrome wheels.....Well Im glad that era has fucked off.

Im not into the car modifying scene to break boundries or get an OBE for my modifying work, so fuck bespoke engineering...Nissan done all that hardwork when they made the GTi/VZR. I'd rather put my time, knowledge and money into advancing the UK SR20DE scene.

And aslong as businesses like 'Carisma' and 'Ultimate Velocity' are the ones shutting down...then im happy. If they can't move with the times then that's there fault.

I can't really comment on the Euro scene...but there no better. Metal plates, OE+ wheels and an Audi TT engine in everything with a VW badge.

Yeah thats a fair shout, the scene 5 years ago was far worse than it is now and JDM isnt the worst thing to have ever happend to the trade. The Euro scene is in some ways just as bad but does invole some talented bodyshop work to get some of the results. NV Autostyling, Carisma (who i know personally) Autovision and many more are suffereing due to only putting out demo cars covered in vents and filler, but this again boils down to lack of imagination on the part of the customer. F&F shit is allegedly what the public still wants come show season time, but come driveway time there all to gay and potless to spend out.

Some interesting views; some people will sell at rock bottom only as its then achieves the sale. This is the same formula for selling anything quickly! If you can afford to wait longer you can retain a healthier return but at the expense of a smaller ratio of demand. To sell at a premium, expect the demand to be elite and all the rare attributes that come with it.

You can only sell a product not an understanding of the product; you cannot add value by adding meaning especially with cars, with exception of the owner having a celebrity status of sort or it contains valuable commodities such as diamonds (included with the sale) - this is the only factor(s) that can increase a value to the product/item for sale.

If we all stuck out and agreed minimum values to each grade of car; will this retain value for money?
Its subjective, buyers will discerningly part with amount of cash they are prepared for which is available in that bracket. You will always have people, not necessarily 'mera owners, who have the objective to sell quickly and in consequence bring about the understanding that the value is relative when its not. Its to achieve an objective devoid of fulfilling true value and without the intent to devalue similar or greater grades of cars.

These days most things are sold not as items but as lifestyles. Perhaps more relevant than the content of your car is the running cost of having one. You need to know your buyer if you want to sell to them and annoyingly they're all different. Would be easier if it was one glove fits all!
