using too much petrol!

my gti is using way too much petrol, if thing continue the way they are, i'm going to get somewhere between 150-170 miles from a tank! and i've been driving it like a granny!!!

i cleaned the AFM last week, which if anything has made it worse! there is no petrol smell in the car, and its not loosing petrol overnight, so i've ruled out a leak!?

I know the throttle cable is slightly sticky, but what else could cause it to use this much petrol?

Its getting an MOT on Saturday, but will it be as simple as altering the mixture??

Any suggestions welcome guys!

Have you got any mods on the car?
If so, a mild tune might help..

Hmm strange, Check your Exhaust, Cat and all the sensors on both the inlet and exhaust manifold,
Thats all I can think to do..Unless you ask a garage for a problem diagnostic, but they might charge you..

Check the ignition timing, I reckon advancing it might sort it out.

If so, a mild tune might help..

You cant `tune` a EFi contolled car. Only the timing can be manually adjusted.

Water temp sensor may be the culprit.

Mine's pretty naff on fuel - anyone got the part number for that water temp sensor? Also the price.
