What are the best lowering springs to get?

Gmax are shit, no if's or but's, they're not even designed for phase 2's, only for phase 1's
clunk clunk

They were on the car when I got it so I don't really have a choice! And I can't see a problem with them! Why do you say they are shit? Like I said they are just a bit hard, nothing else is wrong with them!!!

Because my friend the spring kits are not the same for the two versions of Gti,. so Steve is right they will be shit, you will probably just compensate your driving to accomodate them, as you say they were installed by the muppet before you who owned the car

yep, like sparky says, have a look through your rear wheel at the springs, you will see the bottom of the spring will be all coiled up, it cant work properly when its like that. The springs are physically longer than standard springs, but have a softer progressive rate allowing them to squash up

That would really fuk up the handling of the car.....

ha- i forgot about this thread

Looks like i created a monster!

So Eibachs then is it?

Good job i passed out b4 buying anything- due to all the buttons on my keyboard being in the wrong place :D

am thinking of going for a new set of genuine shocks, with eibach springs, full set of polybushes and suspension set up at motorsport specialist.anyone else tried this set up?

suspension set up will be a waste, all you can do is the tracking, the rear is a floating beam and doesnt need touching, it'll be .17 degrees out on the drivers side from the factory setup
the front is none adjustable camber and toe wise, you can adjust the camber if you get the camber plates though

Thanks for pointing this out lads, my new GTI come with GMAX springs fitted, just had a look and the bottom 4 coils are all touching, gonna get them swapped over for my old Apexi ones now.

The Apexi's give a better drop too.

just as an addition to what's already been said, i had 40mm Pi springs fitted about 2 weeks ago, they were longer than the standard springs but have settled in nicely, obviously there's still a gap between the arches and the wheels seen as its so massive, but its definatley lower, the handling's definatley improved, she looks alot better, and the bumps are alot bumpier, i'd recommend them completely! my dilemma was whether to get springs, or a spring + shock kit, in the end i went for the cheaper one! without the upgraded shocks, but for the moment she seems fine, once you get them remember to get the tracking done on the wheels, and check out the camber to be on the safe side!
