My brother has just ordered an HID kit for his Lexus IS200, I'll let you know what it is like when he gets round to fitting it. Personally I haven't got any spare cash for such luxuries at the moment!

You still have to choose colour temperature though, I wouldn't go for anything above 6000K (blue-white) as they won't put enough light out onto the road, apparently a lot of factory fitted ones are around 4500K (although my brother has opted for 6000k I think cos he likes the blue look).

There are also some legal issues to consider with respect to HID kits, so if you are considering going down that road I would have a look into that first.

the legal issues are that if you have HID then you MUST by law have headlight washers fitted too. Also they are a lot more expensive than £100, more like £700+. As was mentioned each HID bulb would set you back around £100...

Where is the law that says you need washers ??

I've not heard about having to have washers installed. The law does require HID headlamps to have self levelling. And not all HID kits are road legal anyway, depends on the colour and brightness of the light they give out.

I'm no expert though, I just think that if I was going to get an HID kit fitted I would look into this stuff first to make sure I wasn't putting myself in a dodgy position...

There is a bit of a discussion about this on the lexus owners club:

BigBlackCat,

Thanks for your advice. I just fitted some new Philips BlueVision Ultra sidelights to my car. I fitted one and switched them on - look a lot brighter than the other ones. They were kind of charred inside - must be quite old.

Anyway, I got them fitted and it went exactly as you said it should. Thanks very much!

Excellent, glad you got it sorted mate. I only know about this cos I had to do mine a couple of weeks back!

It's really weird - since I installed the new bulbs, my headlamps seem to be pointing lower than before, even though they're set as high as they'll go (from the knob on the dashboard). Any ideas?

Odd, could have sworn that they were required and defo remember a conversation about it where a friend said they were manditory. I shall have to go back to my sources and cross examine....

Isn't that only on manufacturers fitted HID lighting? If it's aftermarket then it's not teh case...

All people with HID should be hunted down and murdered. It blinds me every time. Twats.
The lights on my almost 14 year old car, with bulbs thats probably about that old too, light up the road fine for me, never mind the ones on my almera. I cant see the point in needing to be able to shine your headlights on a foreign country. Maybes people need to eat more carrots?
