Coilovers

am going to talk to ksport later about the rubbing issue, until that is done the uk supplier is not happy.

Can someone keep me updated on what's being donw with this rubbing issue please. If the Daiyama group buy doesn't happen (which I'm very much doubting it will right now) I'll get some K sports.

We should hear back from K-Sport either tomorrow (Monday) or Tuesday.

As soon as Mike knows anything, he`ll let you know. :)

ok cool, thanks. don't think I'm going to wait for the daiyama group buy to takeoff anymore. I doubt it will do now, and the back of my car is a bit lower than it should be on the standard stuff, so I want to get that sorted asap.

The rubbing can only be rectified by replacing the adjusters with non adjusters. When the k-sport coilovers rub they take away about 3mm maybe more of metal. Although this will not rust, it will corrode and also if you are involved in an accident then an insurance company may see this as a point so they dont have to pay.

Ksport suggest that the mounting bracket is bent to stop the rubbing  The UK supplier is not going to supply ksport coilovers for the almera unless it is the non height adjustment version.

The threaded section of the coilover (Ksport) also rusts, it's supposed to be rust resistant but rusting quite bad after 3 weeks is hardly rust resistant.

I never understood why they didn't opt for the Teflon coated threads like the D2s.

with concerns to coilovers without rusting, do they seaze and need constant coating of grease or something? something ive heared about the adjustment parts or something

The rubbing of k sports is very minimal, It all depends on how low you set them.

And seen as none of us live in California, then we ave to comprimise.

Mine are at about 60-70mm lower than standard, and have rubbed a tiny amount(if you find the pic from when D0bo was selling them, they might show them)

The rust is on parts that the instructions state not to oil as well as the threaded adjuster.

This is in 3 weeks of being on the car:

That is rust resistant? Not after 3 weeks it aint.

The rubbing may well be an issue, as I've already stated, with insurance companies trying not to pay out due to wrong equipment being fitted. It should not rub at all, the rubbed metal will corrode if left untreated. Treat it and it will corrode again.

The UK supplier of K Sport will not import coilovers for the almera unless it is the non adjustable type, this speaks volumes.

But hey, it's your money, you have been warned though.

These are the N16 ones I got through the groupbuy last year, that I never even took out of the box when I had them! :(

Those pics are not good!

That is after 3 weeks ?? My D2s have been on for a while now. This pic is before I got replacements (I got 3 from the well publicised batch with different oil in them). I think they'd been on about a year.

This one had been leaking so bad (6 months from first telling Marcus to actually receiving new dampers) the ally lower mount was seized onto the damper :(
Click for big pic.

But as you see, the threads weren't rusted :)

New dampers :D

thats upsetting to see them in that state, I know mine have been rubbing very badly on the back but havent checked them for rust. Might coat them with something just to try and prevent that if it hasn't already happened over her by the salty sea air!

Having seen a few cars with coilovers and the whole rusting issue a mate of mine had some coilovers on his mk1 golf gti ,he used the spray grease that goes on motorbike chains because the chain is exposed it does well to stick to coilovers and keep them in good nick having said that you have to keep applying the stuff on regular intervals ,just a thought if anyone hasent gone down that path already....
momo

I know you say it says not to greace/oil the threads as much as the other part, whys this? surely a nice thick coat of greace or even copaslip would prevent rust and seizing?
