Faulty Rad Cap discussion

Dunno if its the same as the highport, if it is, the bottom heater hose should go to the pipe outlet nearest the thermostat housing.

just been out to check mine aswell, I think they are different on lowport though, neither go behind the block.....

any good?

Well i disconnected the heater matrix pipes and not even a drip of water came out! It must have been one huge air lock in there. Its now bi-passed, and fingers crossed appears ok. I left it running for ages without it getting hot.

I think it because the driveway isn`t level when i last filled the system ie the rad was lower than the matrix.

More weight saving to come when i rip the matrix out! lol.

Went out for longish hard drive today....it did it again! Still seems alot of air in the system.

I do hope its a rad cap. If it is the HG, or cracked head i dont have the time or inclination to repair it.

get the coolant system pressure tested.....?
Im heading home on friday till sunday, I can collect a rad cap if you still need one, then can come over next week sometime and we can have a proper look over it if you want?

Its not the rad cap.

Did you run the engine with the heater hose disconnected and try to get coolant to flow through?
If not, you didnt really establish anythiing did you? you were still left with no coolant flowing into the heater pipes... i.e air lock/flow problem...nothing to do with the rad cap IMO.

Joe is kindly sending a different rad cap thanks Sam. I`ll see how it goes then maybe call in some reinforcements.

The car isn`t `using` coolant as such. The expansion tank does empty itself eventually, this is what its meant to do to some degree, but mine appears to fill up to the brim really quick.

Dale i made sure the pipes ran coolant after removing the matrix.

Pumps fine. Its getting power, and you can feel the flow through the pipes.

Coolant`s clean, no mayo oil, no apparent power loss....although this doesn`t 100% rule out the HG/head problem.

When it first happened i thought it was, i`m thinking less and less it is now. More and more its something serious. Wont hurt to try the rad cap.

Anyone got one those kits that `sniff` the coolant and change the colour of a dye if it detects compression gas? Just to borrow, save me buying one.

Could there be a blockage? Are the hoses definatly on the right way round under the manifold? I was thinking it might be going round a loop, not going through the engine properly and then pressurising too much?

Dont think there`s a blockage. Really i need to jack it and have a good look underneath and make sure all the pipes are getting warm etc.
