Fuel Additives

I'm with Rowdy on this one - I've tried 2 of those so-called performance enhancers & didn't notice any difference at all. Thanks to Rob's link about 'RON' (octane) ratings, I've also been re-educated about the myth of more octane = more power. On that basis, I'd be as well going back to using 'normal' unleaded. I'm still convinced my engine runs smoother & picks up better from low revs with super however - even if it isn't any faster or more powerful.

What the hell's the knock sensor got to do with using fuel additives?

That's the bit that decides if you're engine's pinking - if it isn't it advances the timing and if it pinks it retards it. Running any octane booster makes it harder for petrol to ignitie, meaning you can run more timing advance before it pinks, this is where you get your extra power from. The harder a substance is to burn the more energy is released when it is burned.

If you run an engine that has no knowck sensor in, then putting an octane booster in is likely to reduce the power as it won't be able to burn the fuel as efficiently as it can't adjust the timing to suit.

Mhyold Nova had no timing marks so I just did it by feel, advanced it so that it just started pinking under heavy use then whacked loads of pro boost in. Murdered the valve stem seals but went well!

For you diesel guys out there, I use Millers Oils Diesel Power Sport 4. When I got my car it was quite lumpy from cold and returned 45mpg. Its now smooth as anything and gets near 60mpg. In fact, even for a car with 160,000 on it, the MOT tester comments every year on how low the emissions are! Not much power gain, its a 78hp engine anyway, but definately helps with the smooth running of the engine.

What Rob said about the 99Ron reducing power in Jez's back in the day actually makes sense as Ive often felt mine runs better on 95 than 99 in the last year or so. And 118 out of a 1.4 would only happen if said 1.4 was falling from the sky

Yep, even my 1.8 struggles to get past 120 without a long run up ie. an autobahn !

well 118 was a bit of an exaduration it was more like 112-115 with tail wind going down hill on dual carageway lol.
fuck it, im not that bothered about top end anyway just getting to where i wanna go is enough for me.
i know my car aint the best example but what can i say i love the little rust bucket lol.

eh cov i love the black and flourescent wheels cant wait to see em on ya car.
