I think it started as a development of sleeper look and as a backlash to the super shiny areas of modifying, such as the smooth and simple VW look.
I like it for the most part, dont really like it when someone fucks up a mint or rare car, but as far as I understand, the main idea of rat was to have an absolutely fucked looking shell, but mint chassis underneath. Of course its easy to just make a cheap car rat, and theres nowt wrong with it, all about the budget

its staying there, bit of a different look imo with it on

That's mint. Roofrack definitely. If I were to do a rat look car (which I may do...) I wouldn't do it to a mera, just not quite right in my opinion. But it's still awesome
