Hi everybody! (now with pics of my GTi)
Hi there,
Thought I would say hello. I don't actually have an Almera yet but am desperately on the hunt for one in my area (Exeter) or South West ish.
I currently drive a 205 GTi which was originally a 1.6 but now has the 16 valve Mi16 in it, I fully rebuilt the engine and fitted it myself but Ive started doing 65 miles a day to work and although it's a fun and fast car, Pugs aren't that great for uber mileage so I've decided to garage it and get an Almera GTi since the little Pug is a bit noisy and rough round the edges.
Test drove an Almera GTi a couple weeks ago but the MOT runs out in December, it will need new discs on the rear for the MOT and it had 120k miles on it and the guy wanted £2200+ for it so I wasn't too sure, just seemed a lot to me. I've had a quick browse of the free access bits of the forum but when I get a 'Mera Ill join up to the club etc, but just a quick couple of questions.
Are there any inherent problems with these cars that should be checked out before buying, rust a problem? Like on 205s you always have to check the rear beam etc.
There's induction kits and such like for so many cars that all claim power gains, but is there any realistic and fairly affordable way to squeeze a few more horses out of the Almera that actually works?
What should the Almera rev to? The one I test drove seemed to hit the limiter just after 5.5k revs ish, and being used to 6700 limiter on my Mi I thought that was a bit low.
And as I understand it, the engine is the same basic engine as is in the Pulsar GTi-r but presumably with an altered compression ratio and different rods/pistons (and obvious differences) etc, but is there any way of turbo'ing the Almera engine or not worth bothering and just source a GTi-r engine? Keen for a bit more power but it's not a priority at this stage.
Sorry for the Spanish Inquisition, hopefully I will be able to post more useful stuff on here in the near future
And why are they all up Norf?! Arrrgh! Trying to find one that's close enough to go have a look at is a nightmare. Theres a nice black one down my road but its not for sale and I think they just went into the back of someone else anyway
Cheers guys,
Tris
