Just had my insurance renewal

Well over £1500 from Direct Line and that's just the car premium (it's over 1650 with everything else on top, and a lot mroe than that if paying monthly)

Ok so I've made 1 claim and have an SP30, but still, for a group 4 Almera Si TPFT that's a buttload of money!

I'm 18, live out in the sticks, car parked in driveway, up to 10k miles (sdp&c), no mods, legal cover, 1 named driver (who actually reduces the cost with bell.co.uk who I'm with from midnight tonight), no breakdown, no courtesy car, legal fees covered and that's. Sod that! Went to bell.co.uk and got better cover, I'm insured to drive any car 3rd party only, have legal cover, breakdown cover, windscreen cover and am paying monthly all for slightly over £1600, which is still a lot but it's better cover.

Insurance is a fu**ing joke!

I know how ya feel mate, i feel like im living on the verge of my means paying £1500 for the GTi (half my wages ((£150)) each month).

I've been thinking there must be a better alternative to insurance, basically all you need is enough money to pay for any accident you might encounter right? so I'm sure there's a better way than giving some one loads of money that you might never see again!

When i think of it i'll let you know.

thats shit mate when i was 18 i had a almera slx 1.6 and it was only 500 fully comp cant beleave how much its all gone up by

when i was trying to find ins for my gti and mr2 i went on the autotrader ins search thing and got some good deals

well, at least now I can drive someone elses car (providing it's insured by that someone). I have a few mates with some pretty nice cars :D.

thats what im like mate my mum and dad has the mazda 6 mps and when they come down to stay with me im always driving it

Ian beat me to it, you've proved to be a bad risk already..sorry :(

And as for using someone else's car. Good luck if you actually have an accident in it as that is for emergency use only and a lot of insurance companies are dropping that cover.

As mentioned in those articles, it may not say it but it is actually only for emergency use.

Also if I was your mate with a nice car then I'd want more then third party cover if you stuffed it

yeah I know I've proven to be a bad risk, but although as far as insurances were concerned I was at fault, it was the POS car that caused the accident, and it wasn't much of a surprise to me when it did.

the speeding thing was also unfair, as I was caught dong 37 in a 30, about 5metres away from a 40 sign. The north wales chief of police has gotten a lot of stick for being so anal about speed cameras and traffic control, because there's not a lot of effort going into more iportant things as a result.

As far as the mates are concerned, I'd be surprised if they let me drive their cars as well - not that I'm an idiot driver at all, they're just really nice cars.

Opional extra on the policy. basically for shelling out around £45 extra in total I'm covered to drive anything classed as a car (basically no transit type things, minibusses or anything that sorta size) 3rd party only, providing that car is insured with someone else.

Aren't you too young for that sorta thing, and ain't it only if the other car is insured fully comp?

that is a bit rubbish mate, im 19 and am paying 1600 fully comp on a group 7, and im sure the Si is a group 5. Im also insured to drive others cars even at my age, checked the other day.

what insurance company are you with???

i tell ya, insurance has many many clauses. even if u crashed someones car they would have rediculous premiums should you crash it and pay for the third party. as most insurance companies capture the innocent third party and give them a hire car!!! then its nicely tucked into your mates premium.

all that to let u have a quick drive!!! i know mate, i work in insurance
