N16 guy, your insurance is cheap we all know lol!

but why......? cause your an old git :D

you could live in the worst place in england and your insurance would still cost you 2 old pennies and a potato! :D

:fingers: :moon: Now, now, jealousy is not a nice thing! :ner: :D

I may look 40 odd (see Jae pics thread, the bald bloke in the blue shirt behind Darrens car is me) but I`m only 32, so don`t think I qualify for `old codger` status yet! (although I do have a 5dr N16, so I might) :P ;)

also, actually speaking to the insurer when planning on taking a new policy is the best course as they will take more details from you which may bring you insurance down, they will take details like alarms/immobilisers, where the vehicle is parked at home or at a place of work etc...

it was £110 cheaper to insure my car at my boyfriends rather than my house!!!
all because of the area

nah, some people just add it to the title.
look in you r policy for 100% confirmation but i am 98% sure that all insurers cover you to commute to one place of work on sdp cover as working is basically domestic isnt it! i wouldnt call working social or pleasure!!! definately domestic

saved more if what?
social domestic and pleasure is just the same as social domestic pleasure and commuting its just some insurers are more so panikity!!!

also, some insurers dont insure people under 21 on cars over certain insurance groups. i cant get insured on a 2 litre GTi cos im too young!!!!

Some of you guys are paying well over the odds on insurance. My first years no claims is coming up in November, for this year I am paying £1200 with modifications declared, and thats with me as the main driver and my father as a named driver.

I have been getting qoutes for when I have a years no claims and they have come back at around £740 with modifications declared on a 1.4 Almera. I haven't yet got any qoutes for if I decide to do a 2 litre conversion on it.

Isn`t occupation taken into account as well?
Yeah, thats a bloody stupid one too... The missus is a singer/dancer for a living (I'll skip past the bragging rights for the time being  ) and when she insurers her car, if she tells them she's a singer/dancer and uses the car for SD&P only (No business or commuting) its either about the £5k mark or a flat refusal. When she alters it to say she's a light & sound technician (which technically, she is too) it drops to £400!

How'd they work that one out

I`d class driving to work as social.

I pass a workmates house on the way, & sometimes get a call `my bike`s got a puncture, can you pick us up when you go past?`

well, she dances at a club i presume? (i dont mean strip club) where alcohol is consumed and people get rough and may vandalise her car.

they may assume she has one drink whilst working... meaning she is less alert.

Theatres, Holiday Parks, Social Clubs etc yes. But... they're classed as her place of work, and when she states that she does not use the vechicle for work (which she genuinly does not) then why the large premium?!

Alright all, had renewed my policy today. Was going to go with Admiral originally but my mate works for a local specialist insurance co and said could beat them.

Admiral (same as bell, diamond) quoted me £900 comp, £500 excess for me (-25) and £250 excess for the misses (25+). Then realised i was on a 10 month bonus accelartor. Long story short, non-transferable to insurers outside Admiral group. So useless. Plus, they charged me an extra £80 when i added an iduction kit!

So, my mate at Brentacre insurance (numbers ususally in the back of all the mags) sorts me out with this policy.

Still £900, my excess drops to £450, missus still £250. All legal cover as usual. However, can add as many mods to car as i want - cosmetic or performace - as long as i dont exceed 180bhp. Not bad :D

Dont think theres many policies like this so take note.

its the fact that she works in entertainment, like u say she moves around to different places which to them is higher risk because there is no singular place of work in their eyes. also even if she says she doesnt use it for work they begin to wonder if she doesnt have another car how she gets there??????

TOMASTI,

even though it seems you have a good bargain here i can bet you that the insurer wont replace your mods in the event of an accident, i would clarify this with them before continuing with the policy.

good price though... and if they do replace your mods go for it!

Surely if she's moving around for work, but her car is still at home in the garage where it is declared, it is regardless where or what she is doing?

And as for wondering how she gets to work, thats not their concern either. Surely the less she uses the car the better for them?!

yeah but it is their concern cos if she has an accident in her car and she has said she doesnt use it for work and she has been travelling to work she is screwed cos they will throw out a claim

but yeah, doing less miles per annum is better too! less miles the better for you and for them!!!!

im not saying to tell them you do less than is the truth........

But you say yourself - if she were to use it for work and had an accident she wouldn't be covered and they'd throw out the claim, thus not justifying such a large premium in the first place.
