pmed, to reduce spammage

Well done Joe, i put my cams in on my own, if you can, get anyone, even your mum to hold the chain whilst you do it, so much easier and quicker. Are you putting in the JWT cam gears aswel?

No mate.. I'm using standard sprockets, and not even JWT cams, only mild Kent ones.
I'm hoping to get the engine/gearbox coupled together with all the engine mounts with poly inserts all attached, and the engine loom all plugged in ready tomorrow :)

WEDNESDAY
Started pretty early today, Started sorting my engine mounts out.

In :) Looking clean!

Next I had to remove the poly bush from the old GA16 engine mount.. to fit in the SR20 Gearbox side mount:

Then I went to get my gearbox and gearbox mount from my lockup, It took me longer than expected though so I didn't get much done when I got back:
Poly insert I removed from the GA engine mount earlier^ fitted into the SR20 gearbox mount :) IT CAN BE DONE! haha:

All the mounts ready, except the rear which I bolted to the GTi engine cradle already:
IMG_1722.jpg

Then I began cleaning the gearbox but had to leave it for the night as it was getting dark:

I'm working tomorrow unfortunately! But I'll get more done friday, so expect updates!
Joe

nice one joe, i did not know that the sr20 gearbox used that poly mount, good info :)

Yeah mate,I'm finding out loads of things while doing this that could be helpful to others:
-The SR Drivers side Engine mount and Gearbox mount bushes are the same.
-The SR Drivers side Engine mount is different to the GA one, but the bushes are the same.
-The SR Gearbox mount is different to the GA one, and the bush is also different.
-SRi's already have the holes drilled and tapped to fit a GTi gearbox mount.
-The SR and GA front and rear engine mounts are the same, and the bushes are also the same.
-The SR and GA Engine cradles are different.. the SR one has an extra plate welded underneath, possibly to protect the lower sump of the SR.
-Also P11 Primera and N15 GTi gearboxes are the same, all except for the speed sensor connector.
More friday!
Joe

looking good fella, little tip for when you fit the sr lump, put it in from underneath, but attach the cross member first, as its a lot easier to line the 4 bolts up that hold it in rather than jiggerling the gearbox to line up.

FRIDAY
WHAT A DAY!!
The weather was terrible but I decided to carry on anyway.
Firstly, Got the Gearbox all bolted up to the engine, went on suprisingly easily:
IMG_1732.jpg

Then added the Engine cradle with the Poly mount bushes:
IMG_1733.jpg

Then the complete engine loom was all plugged in ready to go:
IMG_1736.jpg

I followed the advice of you kind folks and decided to slot the engine in from enderneath.. here the Engine is ready to be slid under the car which I lifted up super high haha :)
IMG_1735a.jpg

IMG_1737.jpg

Under!:

IMG_1739.jpg

The car was then lowered back down over the engine:
IMG_1741.jpg

Ready to be lifted into place:
IMG_1742.jpg

Now here's where the fun started lol :)
It was an ABSOLUTE pig to get the engine mounts all lined up when lifting it from underneath.. Especially cos I've got the Poly inserts, I got the drivers side and engine cradle in no problem but was struggling for hours with the gearbox mount.. I ended up levering the mount outwards off the subframe to get the bolt hole lined up.. Just about managed to get all the mounts tightened up and ready, by the time I did that it was dark as you can see.
So here we are.. My SR20'd SRi! :

IMG_1744.jpg

I've got a long way to go before its running..
Haven't connected anything apart from the Engine mounts and the Gear linkages to check the gearbox felt alright, which it did. If all goes well though, I should be doing a test startup in the early days of next week.
I'm working all weekend so expect more updates on Monday ;)

fecking excelent matey :D

looks the nuts in there, :D as if it was meant to be in there all along ,

good job :D

if every thing is connected onto the engine ie the engine loom isnt it a matter of poking it through the bulkhead and plugging in the ecu? as you have swapped the ignition barrels too ?
or is it not that simple :D

well done

Nah not at all mate.. As I've still gotta connect stuff like Fuel lines, Water hoses, Breathers, Exhaust etc..
But yeah your right.. Everything inside the car is ready to go :) Once the ECU is plugged in.
Joe

massive thumbs up to this man, biggest task is out the way, well done!

how on earth is that engine hanging/balancing from the crane with one sling round the middle!! thats mad.

good work fella, once the engine is in, it gives you an extra boost to get it finished, you have got sr20 drive shafts?

sound, did your engine come with the support for the drive shaft (o/s) also when you fit the o/s drive shaft put a bit of copper slip in the support, as its a twat to get the shaft out once its been in a while

It didn't come with it nah mate, but I've got one still bolted to my primera engine so I'll use that one :)
Cheers for reminding me lol
