For sometime, my car has been producing iron oxide from around the rear high mount brake light crevasse.
In an effort to rid my car of more rust, I took the spare bootlid off my red SLX, stripped everything from it including the high-mount brake light, made up a blanking plate and filled the hole, sanded it back and repainted it in BS7 Blue.

What about the high mount brake light I hear you say? I managed to get a hold of a genuine VZ-R sedan rear spoiler, with the integrated high mount brake light. I had to drill a couple of holes in the bootlid, but I'm super happy with it. It's a lot more square than the AUDM 'pulsar plus' spoiler.
Before I took this pic, the car was under the cover, and the bootlid was sitting on the grass. There was some dew forming on the bootlid before I put it on, so that is why it looks a lot different colour and texture wise...
Please keep in mind that I'm not a spray painter, and the reason why i used my spare bootlid is because I thought I would give it a go, and see how I'd go by myself. I'm pretty happy with the colour, but the clear coat finish isn't the best. It looks a lot more matte in the pics than in person. Next weekend I'll take it off and give it a proper buff and get it ultra glossy...
The car cover will stay off the new paint for the next couple of days. I think I will mount the badges back on the bootlid when I'm completely finished.
My coilovers are still in transit, but I should see them in the next couple of weeks.
Cheers for looking.
