Nissan dealer

Well that's twice now that my local Nissan workshop has been awkward or downright unhelpful. This time has convinced me to stay away from them now.
I went in & politely asked to speak to a mechanic, only to be asked what the problem was by the receptionist. It was obvious she didn't have a clue what I was talking about, so then asked why my car hadn't been in for it's annual service. I told her it wasn't due until next month & asked again to speak to a mechanic to explain the problem. A very abrupt mechanic duly appeared & I explained what I was after. He said 'Oh, we wouldn't touch that - it's not standard'. I replied that I wasn't looking for specialist services, just a plug-in to the diagnostics to make sure everything was showing clear on the standard ECU (ie. no fault codes). He wasn't happy when I told him that certain faults do not come up via the ECU fault light & the OBD could still highlight a faulty component or one with 'sticking values' (MAF for example). He totally disagreed & said 'Well the earliest I could book you in is a week tomorrow'.
So I walked out in disgust & made one phone call to a local Subaru specialist. They said, 'Sure, bring it round this afternoon & we'll have a look for you'. I did just that & the OBD came up with no faults or suspect areas. which is exactly what I was looking for. It narrowed my search for the poor running down to the 5th injector not flowing properly. Everything else checks out as clear ! Unfortunately they didn't have a flow rate tester or they would have done it there & then. So I thanked the guy & asked how much - he said 'No charge, just give us something for the tea & biscuit fund !' :)
Now that's service for you - pay attention Nissan ! :rasp:

thats good of them not to charge you. Nissan is like that around here. thank god my mate has a snap on fault code reader and thank god I have a fault code reader too.

if this is dicksons in forres you mean im avoiding them also. car's been in a couple of times and they did nothing but moan, its not standard etc etc, plus had mega bills from them for doing not much.

last time it was it to go on the consult, they snaped a bolt on the intake manifold cover( so had to drill it out) made on it was like that before, lost the alley key bolt for my fancy battery terminals, it was just placed over it, only noticed after i got home some 35 odd miles later.

yeah i've had the gti in there once and never again after there call to me i prmoptly ran the mile like i was being chased by a rabid dog before they started pulling teh car apart.

even worse bit about this that if u require a part they cannot order said part it must be ordered by inverness and delivered to them, now u may think that aint os bad until they tell u they cant order it u have u to phone inverness yourself pay over the phone for it to be delivered there.

Nissan dealers in brum are crap my uncle had a problem with his Navara 2006 shape and my uncle noticed it made a sound some times when it started up he took it to nissan and they said the starter motor or flywheel needed changing. my uncle said check the rest of the car out and if there is nothing else wrong then change it. Nissan change the starter motor or flywheel or both of them and then called him back and said your car is done and the bill is 700 odd quid and then they also said your final syncro or something like that is gone he said how much was it going to cost in total they said another 1300 odd quid he said take everything back off put it back together and said im not paying anything. Nissan then said to him how about if we just charge you the parts and no labour he said no put it back together or I will take you to trading standards. Nissan never charged him anything and he took the car back off them and sold it. my uncle would of paid 700 odd quid if the problem was sorted but why pay 700 odd quid and still have the same problem.

I think its a main dealer thing my sister called me and said my clutch is gone I can't put it into gear or anything. I went to have a look at it on the side of the road and a split pin came loose and another pin slid off on the clutch pedal so she was not able to put it in gear. I put it back for temp and said to her take it to the ford dealer and say it should be under warranty if its not under warranty then I will fix it myself a split pin is a matter of pennies. she took the car in and said call me if its going to cost me anything. the Ford dealers called her up and said your car is ready. she went to the ford dealers and the had a bill of 32 quid or something like that she paid and left it. if it was me I would of said fuck off to them and threatens them with trading standards as she said if its not going to be under warranty tell and I will fix it else where.

Appalling service. I'd write a formal letter of compaint to them adding that you took the car somewhere else and tell them the level of service you got there. Why do companies not realise that in this day and age bad service to even one person can be so damaging, especially with the internet and car forums etc.

(on a side note, Darren did the problem get sorted? I'd put money on it being the big end bearings. A common fault on the early YD25 in that model D22 Navara. Shit sump design was the problem causing oil starvation).

I work for lexus and are customers get treated like gods!

Scanning the ecus for codes is free.

And if one ever shows there not happy about something, lexus will start handing out free services!

Then again lexus has won the which award for best customer service for the past 7years :D

Well we get paid bonus ever quarter, depending on where are ccs scores are which relates to questionairs past customers have filled out, are score is never under 98%, which equals around an extra £700 ontop every quarter :D its an insentive to push harder to make are customers happy, end of the day without them i would be out a job

Shocking that companies need to add the extra insentive to make their employees simpley nice to their customers, but if it works then great. Maybe that's what Nissan is missing? Anyone work for Nissan?

On a different note.. Running a 5th injector is just a cheapo way of bumping up the fuelling.
A more efficient way would be to install 4x uprated fuel injectors in place of the originals..
At least this way you know each cylinder is getting the correct amount of fuel.

Are they Top or Side feed?
Just thinking, ones from SR series motors may be swappable, as there's both Top & Side feed ones available.
I certainly wouldn't trust a 5th injector.. As if the draw to one cylinder in the manifold was higher than the others, then certain cylinders would effectively be running lean.
Which is bad.
Joe

I guess TTS knew what they were doing but I can see that better injectors would be the next move :). Hope they're available for you Paul.

Wonder if the poor service is more nationally spread.

Recently took a K12 for an MOT and Service at Shepperton West London Nissan.
Less than a week later we had no alternator pulley or drive belt.
Basically the mechanic who had advised that the belt required changing hadn't bolted/tighten the nut that kept the pulley onto the alternator. Over a few days the drive belt worked its way off the pulley and the car had been running just off the battery until it died! At some point we also lost the pulley.

They couldn't supply a courtesy car nor pay for a rental for the inconvenience or recover the car. They said they would fix it for free but had made it out as if it was a favour saying "You could argue it may have have been us at fault". Er it was you who deemed it necessary to change the belt. Just coincidence it would magically disappear due to wear and tear?

When we got the car back it was filthy with oil stained finger prints all over it. Now that's service with a smile
