I'll see if I can get a mate to Put in a technical report on all 3 part numbers to see what the changes are on the counter measure parts.
Like I said Steve, I haven't seen one but someone on NPOC bought a new one and he already had the one with the bigger oil chamber, he said the new one had finer teeth.

If the search function wasn't screwy on there I'd search for the post/thread.

So is it a similar issue on the GA engines that makes them rattle? not too bothered by it on mine, sometimes it happens sometimes it does (seems to vary a lot depending on whether I'm parked on flat or inclined ground).

also it doesn't matter because the engine only needs to last until september anyway :D.

I haven’t bothered reading all this as its all going to be over my head anyway.

What I want to know is; that chain noise on cold starts. Is that tensioner coming into play and tightening the chain?

It's amazing that you ask a question and then dont read through the answers.

And why does it rattle ? well the oil can drain out of the tensioner and on start up it takes a little while to fill back up with oil. But the tinner the oil you use the more likely it is to drain out.

What I meant was the technical side of it being discussed on this, the second page.

I read that post but what I meant to ask was if this should or shouldn’t be a cause for concern.

And post #6

I wonder why we bother at times !

Because markbuts3 was interested in the techinical side of this? :rasp:

I got the answer I was looking for before.

Thanks for the help, it is appreciated.

I got a reply on this.
53J03 to 2J200 change to oil supply hole.
2J200 to 2J203 change of build supplier.

I also asked if there was any change to the teeth, the answer was no, not as we are aware.

I'll have to get someone who has actually seen one to provide some input, but they have definitely said the teeth were finer on the newer tensioner.

well Mark you should have asked....lol :D

as ya know I has me engine (P11) in bits....and as part of replacement stuff I got a new tensioner from Shunky when he bought his stuff from the US ie head gasket kit ...

anyway...the new tensioner is in every bit the same design as the old one, but for the teeth....new one has much finer teeth as ya have been mentioning..

anyway heres a pic of new and old...

:)

as you can see new one has much finer teeth...

G whats the part number on the one with finer teeth ? and is that a US or UK tensioner as I've only been talking uk and europe market here.

I'll get ya a part no in a min....not sure whether Shunky got it from the US or UK....I assumed US cause thats where he got the gasket set I have.....

I am pretty sure as Mark mentioned earlier that Colin over on NPOC got the finer teeth one here in the UK....will have to get that confiirmed...

ok the part no I have is... 13070 - 2J203.... don't say which country its from ...just on the usual Nissan Genuine parts grey box... :) ..looks like the latest part no ya posted in one of yer earlier posts Steve...

Reply from Colin..

Hi Mark,

Yes, I bought a new tentioner from Nissan last year. The new part supersedes the old so if you buy one you'll get the latest, fine teeth, version. The part number is: 13070 2J203 and they cost around £53.

I bought it to try to cure chain rattle during running but it did not stop it. The new tentioner works in exactly the same way as the old one with the only real difference being the finer teeth which totally stops the second or two of rattle at start up. Unless your tentioner is faulty there is no other benefit.

I haven't got any pictures Mark, as it's in the car! ;0) However it looks the same as the pictures posted on that thread from AOC you linked to.

Well I'm gob smacked, in my time I must have fitted like 400-500 of these and never ever noticed. Learn something new every day :D
