sri engine turbo'ing

kia-tat:
the nissanperformancemag site turbo'd a 200sx ga16de (its been mentioned on here before) and they claimed that the ga16de took well to turboing

"We also noted that the GA16DE seems to be well suited for turbocharging, with it's long stroke, small bore and shallow-angle, turbulent combustion chamber, the GA is very resistant to detonation, the bane of a turbocharged engine. The long stroke also helps spool the turbo quickly. With the exception of brute strength of its internal parts, the GA seems better suited for turboing than the SR20! "

nice job Si you're a brave man for taking on the job of turbo'ing the mera. Was close to doing a gti-r engine swap recently coz my engine blew but i chickened out in the end.

Interested to see how u get on with the forged pistons if your going down that route. also curious did you change to a front mounted intercooler setup rather than the overhead mounted one you show in your pics? if you did how easy was it to fabricate the pipe work?

Keep up the good work.

Cheers mate....... will probably get the pistons done sometime early next year depending on cash flow. Still have the top mount i/c on at the moment. I do have a frontmount i/c sitting in the house and 2 lengths of pipe. Just waiting for a chance to get measured up for silicone bends, then connect them up with straight bits of pipe. Works out a lot cheaper than custom pipework fabrication, which to my knowledge would cost around 600 quid including labour. The battery would have to be relocated to the boot for this though.
