SR20DE LSD/ Phanthom Grip etc...

ive got the phantom grip in mine, car still spins up, but spins both wheels

I've only experienced Viscous LSD in an S13... And it was truly SHOCKING.. Like an open diff when drifting to be honest! Inside wheel just spinning freely and pulling the car back straight.
Much better now with a welder ;)

cant seem while one wheel would spin considering the shafts are the same lenght?
bearing in mind when drifting the load is put greatly onto one side of the car, so not suprising really, all drifter are supposed to use a 1.5-2.0 for dirfting :)

Thats what I mean.. While drifting the inside wheel lost traction making it hard to maintain the drift.
Rowdy's VLSD'd VZR box felt great on the track though!
FWD is a different ball game lol x

Mine seems ok, not really pushed it now its wet all the time. In the summer though it was rather brilliant on the whitby roads.

Kurt you mention regular oil changes as the oil gets low? Where does it go? I can only imagine the oil's viscosity changing effecting the performance. I'd love to see a video of a viscous lsd in action but i cant find one. I'm trying to work out in my head how the oil is used to both lubricate the gears and carry out the LSD action.

Isn`t the oil in a VLSD seperate to the gearbox oil though?....as in Stu`s quote. My box was rebuilt and i assume the viscous refurbed and the oil changed.

Is it? I didn't spot another bung on mine. For all i know i've been driving with it empty :O

It definitely works though.

I have no idea, I thought that's what happened over time...like B series engines do. But looking into the Wiki page it mentions it overheating and changing the viscosity like you say....which explains it.

Don't think it can be changed. It's a silicone oil according to the FSM. It only mentions checking for cracks/leakage and doesn't show or mention a drain plug etc.

There won't be a diff fill hole on the gearbox I'd imagine, if the diff is a sealed unit, it'll be flying around the inside of the gearbox, i'd like to see you fit a pipe to that lol. Might be possible to change the silicone fluid if you strip the gearbox right down, but you'd have to try it to find out.

Found a pic of a SR20 VLSD
