So today was a good day in the progress of the car, collected my recondtioned alternator this morning, came home fitted it and started the car and battery light went out and car was charging @ 14.6v
All delighted so took it for a drive and half a mile up the road the light came back on
WTF, I was stumped, came home and checked the voltage and it was back to 15.5v,
unhappy was an understatement, I was thinking about walking away from it but said i would check the wiring and make sure i hadn't missed anything.
Checked fuses and nothing, checked connections and they were all good then i got the multi-meter out and started checking for continuity through the wires and bingo, signal wire from the alternator to battery wasn't showing any voltage so i made up a little homemade loom to test it.
So i knew there was a break in the wiring somwhere so started at the fusebox near the battery and started tracing the signal wire to the battery and came across this behind the offside headlight.
Due to not having arch liners water was abviosly getting into the couple of plugs near the relay box and caused the signal wire to corrode and finally broke off when I was driving down my rough road.
Managed to pull the connector out of the plug and made a new connector that fitted in the plug
This is the little bastard that broke
With that sorted light was back out again and car charging properly
Also gave a call to the dealer to collect a small package
A new hazard switch as my indicators were working intermitently but hazards worked all the time, so replaced the switch and indicators now working on demand.
Happy it's all coming together now all i need to do now is bleed the brakes as pedal is a bit soft and fix a leak near the back box and then off for the NCT and should be all legal then.
