Syv's N16 2.2 dCi daily-project

Well it's a bit more than that, I didn't like too much chrome so I left only small bits, front badge, aerial, rear muffler with tip and handles. Will be doing chrome lug nuts too. Door handles might be painted black after that, will see how it looks. Maybe wind deflectors will happen too.
 
some unexpected things I've had last week.. excessive whining led to believe that turbo is about to fail, after checking shaft play it was more than clear. Couldn't afford £600 worth hybrid at the moment so went for the refurb. Picked up this shiny thing today, hope it will last few seasons.

Also got plans to remake the exhaust, version 2 should be wider diameter mandrel bent stainless steel with custom downpipe and probable same backbox. stay tuned.

My guess is direct commonrail injection. Di stood for Direct injection so its not a big leap.

So far so good, downpipe welded and fitted. Really pleased with 2.5" diameter from the turbo now. We're using V-spec old 2.5" cat-back stainless pipes this time (powerflow I believe) so all system will be 2.5" wide. Had to relocate coolant pipe to get that downpipe fit, now there's plenty space around. Still not sure how the rear beam will work out, would be nice to remove that knocking sound but doubt it'll work out easily.

I had the pipes bought a while ago (cheers @V-SpecII) I reckon it will be more than enough for my needs. 3" would make even less clearance on the rear beam, fine on stock suspension but could be a pain on coilovers. :)
 
Car is on the road again, had a broken thermostat housing to fix, snapped so easily than tightening. Here's whats been done in last two weeks:

Fantastic4Garage custom 2.5" stainless downpipe with coolant pipe relocation.
Powerflow 2.5" mandrel bent stainless exhaust pipes.
Magnaflow Performance (14216) 2.5" stainless Backbox.
Remanucatured OEM GT1849V Turbo (Turbosystems).

Kinda hoped for the better sound, it sure does sound louder but there's no deep tone that I'm after. Will try different backbox some time later. Power wise no noticeable difference, maybe few horses on the dyno. Refurbed Turbo isn't whining like before but it still overboosts. Won't be able to map it like this, maybe worth checking with another MAP sensor.

Cheers guys, yeah no way 2.5" would fit without relocation. It was a pain to do it, snapped thermostat housing twice, really weak aluminium there. Left some micro holes in the new welded pipe, air got in the cooling sistem.. Things like that. I'm still thinking about different muffler, midbox design maybe. If you want the sound, dont go for a big backbox
 
This only thing with the exhaust is though, the outlet of the turbo is so small anyway, you don't need to go straight into 2.5". An elbow that tapers out to 2.5" over 6" will be fine. Saves messing about with the coolant pipe. @Mad Maru
 
got some aftermarket lug nuts, improved the look a bit. Surprisingly lightweight, D1spec aren't supposed to be top quality stuff but no issues so far.

bronze on black always works well, liking the upgrades. did you get a locking nut?

Cheers, yeah I actually got two sets of locking nuts. mcguards doesnt fit (gap is too small for unlocking key), currently using gorilla ones that I imported from US, they ruin the look a bit. Also almost all locking nuts are chrome colored. Thats why I choose to go chrome, at least they match in color.

Going to finish my exhaust bits in coming weeks, new midbox arrived, tailpipe collected. Some welding needs to be done.

Some late progress, really hoping for better sound this time. This is magnaflow 10416 round muffler, 2.5" in and out, will be replacing backbox with straight pipe. Also a chance to lift the pipe around the beam, still haven't found the perfect spot, occasional knocking returns now and then.
 
Nice. That is exactly what I got, although a slightly longer version. It will sound awesome. I actually miss it, I had a pussy moment and thought it was too loud and got a back box put back on and centre removed. Shouldnt have.
