Thinking of getting a 1.4

Have you tried a Saxo VTR (had one of these too) and before everyone slates me if its standard they look alright and are fairly rapid, great fun to drive, easy to mod, and Very cheap on insurance I know when I had mine 4-5years ago it was only £50 more to insure than my 1.3 fiesta, there only group 7 & like 9 secs to 60, on the downside every Chav got one and it is french :O. I had an induction kit, performance exhaust, & front lower & upper strut braces on mine & 15" alloys it sounded good went pretty fast and handled better than any other car I've had

I thoroughly enjoyed owning mine but I had some relaibilty issue with the CV joints/Driveshafts more down to the Shite Dealer doing the work than the car, & probaly down to me thrashing the life out of it ;) :P

Lol. I've driven my mates VTR and they feel rapid. Very fun and go kart like. However, on the zetec S vs VTR thing I choose the zetec S. Air con standard and it's a great handling car. My mates car put me off the VTR you see. He had to replace the driveshaft, the clutch, every single piece of the exhaust, one of the wheels is a few mm back than the other and the cambelt needed changing aswell lol.

Did you have your vtr as a first/second car or was it further down the line?

if i had to choose between a vtr and zs it would be th zs no doubt. Much better car all round, throttle response is superb, instantly pulls as soon as you touch th throttle plus they have a form of traction control which utili7es th abs system

My dream car is a zetec S. I'm just depressed now I can't afford it. A 1.4 Almera is a nice car, but all this zetec S talk just makes me want one even more. It's a far superior car. Just wish I knew how to make £2000 by february.

if yo can take abuse have you considered a 1.3 K11 micra? filter and a bacbox and i was pushing zetec s. 4 branch manifold decat and stripped interior (850kg) and i had my mates 96 celica gt to 50. i shit you not. seriously underrated. only spoiled by the granny image and cute bubbly shape. comfortable for lankies (im 6'3) and in japan the k11 is our vtr, zetec s,mg zr etc. 1.4 almera has longer legs than the micra though, cruises motorway hapily upto 100 leptons. remember micra, 1.4 almera and 1.25 fez are also cheaper tax.

*awaits debate

i wouldnt say th zs is a far superior car as a 1.6 almera will totally suprise th person in th zs as my friend found out frm me in th sri. Only reason his is faster now is it has a racing puma lump in it lol. Guarantee you will have plenty of fun in a 1.4 or 1.6 almera.

After thinking it over I still think getting an Almera is the way forward. They seem like bigger more grown up, less femanine cars. The interior on the Almera's much better than the fiesta, seems more practical, better built especially and properly spacious. I like the idea of feeling like I'm driving a bigger car instead of a little go kart. Also, I can imagine that for general overtaking the Almera's will be better then the fiesta 1.25's and 1.4's, since they have more torque and engine power. The small fiesta's are only really fast off the line I'd imagine.

My first car was a 1.2i Nova Merit+ (modded with wheels spoilers & spots), then I got a 420GSI Rover which I loved as it was rapid but a total sleeper. Sadly it was costing me £90 a month to insure, so I got the Fiesta 1.3 which was modded, then I got the VTR & modded this quite a lot (modded grill, Black angel eye headlight, LED rears, Induction kit, Alloys, Strut braces) still the most I've modified a car, but problems with the driveshafts put me off, mind I had it 2 years & only lost £200 on it. Then I got a focus 2.0 Ghia modded that too  .Then decided I wanted something a bit faster & brought a modded Almera GTi. Then I wanted something bigger so I got a primera 2.0 Sport+ auto. & finally wanted something a bit more economical so I got my present car Almera Sport+ deisel with a remap.

I would say though that the VTR is still one of my favourite cars, not the faster but definately the most fun to drive. But my favourite is still the Rover I loved that car it looked like an old mans car but it didn't have shift 7.9 to 60 or something I think & 145BHP....

micra K11 1.3 SR FTW.. janspeed manifold decat and exhaust induction kit proven to take the car to 100BHP plus with suspention mods can outhandle most things on the twistys.. people will back me up on that one..

ztec fiestas got nothing lol

Is that a bit costly, though? It does actually look nice there man, just comes with a bad reputation lol.

"ztec fiestas got nothing"

That micra isnt standard though as you say. Drop a 155bhp 1.7 ford racing puma lump in and upgrade the brakes and suspension and its all good. It's all expensive stuff though.

sorry just got to make a comment about the puma "race" engine... Find it funny how people get a boner about the "racing" engine, its a 123bhp puma lump with cams, manifold and stainless system and a nice plenum chamber! Could get that power out of a normal puma lump without having to shell out a small fortune on a so called race engine. Only 32bhp increase and theyve got variable cam timing!

Sorry had to comment.

Lol. I can buy a 1.6 ALmera for the same price as a 1.25 zetec fiesta. In addition, the Almera 1.6 is only £50 quid dearer than the 1.25 zetec to insure. Considering the huge differences in performance, comfort and reliability I think its an easy decision. I've decided the 1.6 after listening to some of your comments. 1.6 GX directline want £1672; not bad. In 5 door form its uglier than any other car, but the 1.6 will make it all better ;).

Lol lol Seriously NNissan iv had both and the Almera is the better car. The Fiesta feels very basic and flimsy. Get the 1.6 Almera like i have and you wont regret it.

Those racing pumas look the absolute balls though, why don't other companies have the guts to do that!

Didn't that particularly Mirca have an SR20 in it? Course they don't have anything against that :P

Probably end up with a gx or 5 door 1.6 equivalent even though they're uglier. The 3 doors are very nice, but only 3 door is the SRi, and for some reason even with the same engine the insurance is higher =/.

Infact directline give me 1672 for 1.6 gx, but refuse to give me a quote for the SRi lol.
