Wheel opinion required!!

Like the choice you've went for :D hwoever what tyre size are they offering with the rims you got?

Mine's are 205/55/R16 and they look like dumper truck tyres: -

205/55-16, I thought my 205/50-16 had big enough sidewalls, they're std on the P11 but the P10 needs 205/45-16's to be the same size as the original 195/60-14's.

I've requested 215-40-17 but still waiting to hear if they will fit OK.
The speedo will read 68 when I'm doing 70 so I'll have to watch that :)

205-45-17 will almost definately fit and will be closer to stock size so I'll probably end up with them.

You wont need more than 205 width and the 45 profile will be more forgiving than a 40......believe me, my back knows!

That's what I'm thinking myself - now that I'm thinking about it.
They haven't started putting the order together yet (according to the online order status) so I hope it's not too late to change. I hate this time of year - always too busy rushing about to think straight.

On the other hand I don't want to be driving a dumper truck..

(JK TP, I think yours look fine on your car)

It looks great, in any case the only thing that 99% of people notice on a lightly modded car are the alloys :)

One slight thing that worries me. The pro race 1.2 usually has "Team Dynamics Motor sport'' etched into the rim? Also these are supposedly the Matt Neil limited editions according to the latest TD brochure......just dont look genuine some how, there isnt an option to not have the etching as far as i am aware.

That gave me a double-take too - I'm sure Rochford are on the level but I'm intregued enough to ask T.D. directly.

Hmmmm, odd.

The embossed version is £520 for 4 16" wheels and 205/50/16 tyres.
The non-embossed version is £430 for 4 17" wheels and 205/40/17 tyres.

Rochford don't seem to have 17" etched or 16" non-etched.

The all-black version is £655 for 4 17" wheels and 205/40/17 tyres.

The picture of the non-embossed version and the embossed version are identical apart for the embossing - looks like one is a photoshopping of the other.

I wonder if the ones I have ordered have had their original rims ground back and coated for some reason? Dodgy embossing perhaps? Typo on the first run - Taem Dynamics?

Hope Rimstock get back to me with details tomorrow.

Official response from Rimstock..

"The wheels you describe were earlier versions of the PR1.2 we trialled
before deciding on the final specification for the Matt Neal Limited
Edition wheels. The only difference is the lack of etching.
"

..not bad, I requested the info late last night and got a response first-thing this morning.

Excellent - I get the even-more-limited-than-the-limited-edition-edition cheaper than the standard version.

Mailed Rochford last night too, requesting advice on tyre size and requested a specific day for delivery - they got back to me on both by this morning, too.

Going to go for 205-40-17.. I'll just find a good chiropractor.

I'll post piccys in the Member's Rides section when I get them on Thursday.

Look great! Would they be OK with a 30mm drop?

Sorry for the delay (hope I`m not too late), been away since Thursday (works xmas do).

The tyres only seem to jarr when going over BIG potholes, but I`ve still got standard suspension, so you`d probably notice the smaller bumps & lumps with the drop.

Again, appologies if I`ve posted this too late for you to change your order! :O

Thank, I'm getting 205/40/17 anyway - the guy at Rochford thinks they will be fine with a 30mm drop. I'm not so worried about harsh ride as rubbing/snagging. So long as Rochford choose the right eta I should be OK. Worst comes to the worst I know a good wee garage who will roll/enlarge my arches if I have problems.

Well, that's them on.

Rochford supplied four spigot rings but although they are a perfect fit for the hub there is no way they will fit inside the wheels, in fact the wheels 'seem' to be a perfect fit without any spigots.

The wheels feel fine - just been for a run and there is no judder at ei.. er.. seventy so I guess I got someone elses spigots?

There is a very slight pull to the right but I understand that's normalish on the N16?

not really it shouldnt pull at all. to the left if anything (road camber tends to go to the left) but it shouldnt really pull at all. were any of the four edges of yor previous front tyres worn? (i.e the tread scrubbed off the edges of the tyre)

The four previous tyres were pretty new so hard to tell. The new wheels/tyres are about 4% smaller diameter so I guess I should maybe get my suspension realigned?

Hmm, I thought the slight pull to the right may be to compensate for the camber. The main road I drive quickly on has no camber at all (and so no drainage - it's like driving down a river some days).

There is sometimes a very slight vibration through the steering wheel at above ei.. er.. seventy-ish but it's hard to tell if that's just the crappy road surfaces around here.

Moving from 185/65/15 to 205/40/17 it may just be that the existing suspension characteristics of my particular car are more noticable with the new wheels?

personaly with a size increase that big i would go get my tracking diditally read out. Get you tracking angles, castor and camber angles didgitaly read out, they will print off results and if your tracking or caster/camber angles are out they will set them for you. They will also give you a digital readout of the angles after. I would have thought this would fix your problem. I would offer to do it for nothing but the 12thousand pound machine at work is on the blink but my mate does have one if your live in north east?!
