Autech Pulsar GTi

No problem man, glad you found them!
Few more things for you to think about:
Check you won't have any valve spring binding, there's a value on BC's website so you know exactly how much lift you can have before the coils of the valve spring actually touch or "bind", this is very bad as it can scrap the cam, snap rockers etc (I'm sure the cams you've got will be within specs but just double check).
That double shim tip, get that on the go too :)
This is gonna be good!
Joe

I need to make sure I've got enough of the right clearances to do mine first though really, think they all have to be within .001" of each other or some sh*t.
Hmm
Joe

Yeah of course, sort yours first dude...

I'll measure mine up to see what i'll need for future reference.

I can run without this mod and add it at a later date.

Just a progress update.

So ive got everything i need to re-assemble my engine, except for 8 exhaust valves and a throttle body gasket. Both are on back-order at Nissan. I've managed to secure a deal on a set of geniune used valves through the company 'GTi-R-us', which are being posted out this week.

In case you are wondering here are the few parts which ive chosen to upgrade to compliment the worked head:

Valve Springs - BC Valve Springs
Hydraulic Lifters - Roller Rocker HLA's
Head Gasket - Cosworth MLS
Camshafts - JWT C3
Cam Gears - GSPEC Adjustable Slider

Plus a bunch of NISSAN gaskets, seals etc required for re-assembly:
Valve Stem Seals 6mm Intake/7mm Exhaust 13207D0100 and 1320784A00 (full set)
Intake Manifold Gasket 1403553J00
Plenum Gasket 1403253J00
Throttle body Gasket 1617579S70
Exhaust Manifold Gasket 1403653J00
Chain Tensioner Gasket 1307953J01
IACV Gasket 2378553J00
Head Bolts 1105653J00 (x10)

So i started out by lapping in the intake valves and then numbering them so they went back in the right place.

Then after a bit of a battle and white grease (not spunk), valve stem oil seals were changed. Notice the bronze valve guides.

Followed by installation of the Intake Valves, BC valve springs and steel OEM retainers.

Finally, the head has also been resurfaced.

I'll update more soon...

C3's are pussy cams, get the C6M's :)

Only joking bud, gonna be epic! C3's are ridiculous!

lovely stuff dale

have you laid the cossy gasket on the block yet? look out for the little tab sticking out near the drivers side mount

nice one dale

quick question, why did you go for oem retainers? dont BC do titanium retainers?

Steve

Just money really to be honest, im confident the BC springs and C3 cams will work just fine with stock retainers, they're just a shade heavier is all.

loads of win right there!!! very nice dale :shades: how much did you have skimmed off the head?

Its was just resurfaced, so the absolute minimum has been taken off.
I'll 'cc' the combustion chambers once i get my exhaust valves, so i can calculate/confirm the final compression ratio.

As some of you know, i had a bit of set back a few weeks ago...after recieving GtiR exhaust valves i found they were incompatible.
(Basically the groove on the valves for the collets is in a different place, probably due to the solid lifter setup).

So i managed to get hold of some S14 SR20DET exhaust valves yesterday, Thanks to Raceworx and Sam.

After lapping in the exhaust valves, i installed the exhaust stem seals, and then assembled the exhaust side.

Then there was the fun part of measuring and shimming it all up, to within 0.01mm of each other.

Thats all for now.

sweet

where you get shims from? and what increments do the tend to come in?

just tried reshimmin mine, well organisin the shims back into the right order after a mishap and could do with a few to get them spot on.

I bought a complete S14 Head from raceworx, so was fortunate enough to have all the correct shims i needed.

The guides are the same thickness (only available in 3mm), and showed no wear at 2.99-3.00mm. The shims ranged from 2.95mm to 3.01mm.

Mines all shimmed up now, to within 0.01mm of the guides so the rockers sit flat...the actual lash will be taken care of by the HLA's.

Ive got some shims left over now, what sizes do you need Craig?
