BeardedViper N16

Yes mate, on the inside. I've done it on loads of cars so it's quite a good finish too :)

Ahh tidy! Will try and get myself some and get some pics up after I've had a go. Was thinking of spraying the manifold. I know I'd have to use HTP but I'm sure the red I last bought looked more orange than red.

Good good ha! If you're going to spray the manifold, just do it black. Also give the the block a coat of silver while you're at it. Will look nice and neat then.

You may need to work the degreaser in a bit, I did mine with a dustpan brush and it worked a treat. In fact, mines in need of a clean again already.

Ahh ok then mate. Will do it black if it is going to look better. I might as well spray the block yeah seen as I'll try and clean the block up completely so a coat of silver will be beneficial, cheers.

I've only ever degreased a mini engine before but that was out of the car so was really easy to do.

When you asked if I had done it on the outside, was that because it looks like a bad job...? I wouldn't dream of doing it on the outside haha.

No it looks fine mate, just couldn't see the black outline on the glass and thought id ask. Just the picture playing tricks with my tired eyes :)

Oh thank god for that! Haha

Have you got all of your windows tinted? Where did you go for yours?
If there is a stand at Japfest then I'll wait for that although ideally I wanted it doing for Japfest :P

Take a trawl through the AOC discounts and recommended companies mate, I'm sure 'window tinting' will come up with a few results :)

Urgh! What a crap day.

It's been the first day I have properly took out the 1.8 'mera for a good drive. I will list the problems that I have found (So far..)

Engine mounts are f*cked
It has had the driverside rear quarter repaired and sprayed in the wrong colour
It has had a front end collision at some point as the bar behind the front bumper is bent (Not the cross member)
It has two seized brakes so it struggling to pick up and has no top end speed
Just as I came home I parked on a slight kurb and the oil light flickered at me a few times. I got out and revved the engine and a LOT of white smoke came out. Put my hand in front of it and it seems to just be sut that is being blown out. It has been sitting for a long time. Then I thought I saw a slight tint of blue in the smoke but not sure if that's just me being paranoid

I think when I bought the car I was looking at it through glazed eyes because it is the car I have been wanting for so long. So dissapointed as funds are tight as it is! Questioning whether to even put it on a stand at Japfest now due to the bodywork!

Will keep the post updated as and when I find out more problems :(

So true, anything goes on the stands mate, we're pretty relaxed about that :)

After calming down and after seeing both of your comments I think I will still put it on the stand.

Just so frustrating finding all these things out but I guess that comes hand in hand with buying second hand. You never know what you're buying into.

I will definately keep an eye on the oil level and worst case scenario will sort out any mechanical problems as and when they arise. I'm hoping the smoke is due to it being stood for such a long period and it is just blowing all of the crap out of the exhaust :/

Thanks for the input fella's

Don't let it worry you mate mine's had a smack on the left rear corner by the arch (that's why I don't post pics of that side too often and I have a ding in the rear bumper as well which were both there when I bought her. I'm still putting it on the stand and f**k what anyone else says) lol. It's an almera. End of story

Don't let it put you off too much mate just treat bits as and when. I've had to put mine off being modded as I've got repairs to make but when you do get it exactly how you want it you certainly won't think of the little bits.

Ask anyone here seriously if they've got any marks on their cars. I bet EVERYONE here says that they have imperfections on them. They're not new cars any more they will have been in the wars. It's a fact of life mate. You drive it you get stone chips, You get hit you repair it the best you can, it goes wrong then you fix it the only way it's only ever going to be perfect is if you bought it out of the garage wrapped it in cling film took it home then left it there but that defeats the object lol

Mines fucked. Stone chipped and scuffed front bumper, stone chipped bonnet, scuffed side skirts, different colour driver side, primered rear arches, laquer peel on rear bumper, slight laquer peel on spoiler & fuel flap.

Join the club, but meh, it goes good.

Haha so so true mate! I didn't want to put it on the stand with all these problems next to the other almeras which all looked the dee's bee's but as you said they all have their little imperfections.

I went to the supermarket before and when I was walking back I could hardly tell the difference on the respray until I got within 10 foot so from a distance she looks ok :)

I'm going to really focus on the mechanicals and hopefully get one or two mods done before Japfest

I think once I've sorted this smokey part out I'll be a lot happier as I'm almost sure I can sort the other two without mega cost

Thanks mate :)

Am I looking at a large amount to repair/replace that?

It doesn't seem to be excessive amounts of smoke but it is there and after driving it for 15-20 miles I'd of thought that would of cleared any crap out of the exhaust system

That's a damn shame just do as Liam says keep a check on the oil and try some of the paint renovators to tidy up the scratches etc till you can afford a blowover etc?

Yeah I think I will save up for a blow over, either that or I'll save up for a phase 2 1.8

I've been told a blow over will be around £500ish that sound around about right?

Too cheap.

Buy cheap buy twice.

Ill aways steer away from people who say they can do spraying cheaper than elsewhere. Mainly as the paint costs the same to whoever, the difference in price will be in the labour/effort/quality of the prep and finishing work,

Just my 2p from experience.
