BeardedViper N16

Wouldn't worry you'll be there soon :P

Insurance is damned expensive though too. 9 times out of 10 they don't payout or you don't need it anyways. Waste of money :(

It drops around £300 when I turn 21 plus I lose my claim against me then so fingers crossed for an sr20! Haha

Ive been screwed over by insurance time after time so now I do everything by the book and drive rather sensibly by my previous standards! :(

Time for an update! I now have the front strut brace on and it makes the car drive a thousand times better! I'm now having a bit of a predicament with my alloys though. I decided that after I had wired in my footwell lights and tidied my car that I wanted to see what the standard alloys looked like in comparison to the previous alloys I am currently refurbishing. I need opinions on these so let me know.

I will be lowering the car within the next two weeks before anyone points out how high it sits! :P

So yeah let me know what you all think :)

Sorry but I'll be honest, white wheels on silver doesn't do it for me, and I much prefer the Twist design over the new ones.

Cheers fellas glad you caught me now before i finished all four! Im not a huge fan of black alloys on silver because of how common it is, any ideas to throw out there?

Mot day...i figured id be looking at loads wrong....just a severly rusted front cross member, £200 later and the car is fresh and ready for 12 months :D well happy!

Always a good thing except the 200 quid repair bill lol. As for the wheels if the 240sx ones were bigger they'd be ok in a darker colour but they look lost in the arches and would still do so even if she was lowered I think so go for the twist alloys I think mate :-)

After all that good hype about the MOT it went horribly wrong! When the garage took off my front bumper to get to the front cross member the wings were damaged and needed plates welding in and the cross member wouldn't be able to be welded in without them sorting the wings. £450 and 3 days later and I have my car back with 12 and a half months MOT.

When I went to pick up the car they wanted to prove to me how screwed the front cross member really was so they gave it me. I guess it is kinda screwed considering one of the engine mounts bolts onto it :/

Ohh well. Unfortunately it means any mods I had planned for Japfest are well and truely out of the window but if I have asked for any parts from any AOC members I still have the funds for them (EdK, Mad Maru, N16 Ryan) and will still be going to Japfest :D

oh shit, that was some serious weight reduction going on.. Go to say mine is on the way too, after seeing those pics I might be spending extra money for the rust too.

sorry to say this but that crossmember would have passed an mot as an advisory, as even though one of the stabilising engine mounts (the driver and passenger side mounts take the weight, the front and rear are really just there to stabilise the engine) bolt to it it's not a structural part of the car. but it sounds like your inner wings were gone so you'd have needed welding done for the mot anyway. best advice I can give now is go get it plastered with cavity wax and underbody seal!

The MOT fella said that the reason it failed was because the rust was within a certain distance from both the engine mount and the wings and it made the car not structurally strong. I didn't think a rusted cross member would be cause to fail an MOT either but he said it was just so heavily rusted it was proving to be dangerous if it took a knock. I also would of figured it would of been an advisory on the MOT last year but clearly it has been a really bad year this year. I wasn't impressed because the price of the fix kept increasing and increasing and the welder only worked in cash...hmmmm

syv101 - if it's only that then I'd be inclined to rub it down and get the worst off and paint it up. If there are no holes they can't fail it for an MOT. Although if you're looking for complete piece of mind the cross member is only £40 and I'm sure you can find someone to weld it for a much cheaper price than what I paid! :)

Cheers for your input lads :)

That was a very expensive MOT dude, but at least it's done now. As Happy said, get it waxoiled/undersealed pronto. It should last for ages then . . . . . .

Wow there is something seriously wrong with the design of the front crossmembers on N16's.... never seen a N15 front crossmember that rotten
